I'm working on an Islamic character for my Lego world and I was wondering if any one knew of any good ones. I've tried looking up baby names but that only gives you first names and I am not sure how Islamic names are laid out.

Generally Arabic last names are either the father's name or the place name. They don't have 'family' names like we do in the West, altho that is changing somewhat.

My friend, Yassine al Zahani, - given name Yassine from Zahan. The 'al' means 'the' and the '-i' indicates a person from a location, so it would correctly be Yassine the person from Zahan. This also works for Persian names, like Ruhollah Khomeini (Ruhollah from Khomein).

Another famous person, Osama bin Laden - given name Osama and 'son of' ('bin,' also 'ibin') Laden (his father or grandfather).

Arabic names can include more both in the same name, such as (I'm making this up now):

Ahmed al Tuzini ibin Akmar ibin Yasin
Ahmed from Tuzin, son of Akmar, son of Yasin
but he usually goes by Ahmed al Tuzini

Hey thanks Lenny. I was aware of some of those (like the ibin = bin) but the place names ending in i I had no idea about.
awesome.

Here is a nice name listing of Arabic names (masculine)

http://www.ummah.net/family/masc.html

Or if you need some female characters.

http://www.ummah.net/family/fem.html#INDEX

These are good pages to look for names as it also provides the meaning for those names in English.

I've use these to create names for Military Theme factions as well as characters.

For example, there's the "Abdulin al-Din" meaning Servants of the Faith. They are a counter-terrorist taskforce group from the Islamic world designated to fight against Islamic terrorists and insurgents. They're founder is named Ammar Karim. http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=77942
