Age of Empires III
Hey Guys, its been a while.
Anyone here have Age of Empires III?
In my opinion it is the best of the series. You actually do start off with Medieval units such as pikeman and longbowman, and the most powerful cavalry unit is the French Cuirassier, similar to the medieval knight on the battlefield.
Although this game does take place in the gunpoweder age, there are still fortifications, such as the super powerful "Fort." And wooden palisades and stonewalls can still be utalized.
I reccomend AOE fans and History fans check it out, even if it is a bit outside the time period we like to collect.
BTW I think I'll be coming back on this website soon, just wanted to get that out.

I have the demo, it is quite good. My wife is really into it, so I am sure we will be getting it.

I haven't played Age of Empires 3, but am interested in it. Must go check the reviews for it now.
On another note of other good medieval games I've played and own, Stronghold and Rise of Nations:Gold Edition both have some interesting medieval game play.
I prefer Stronghold over RN, it has castle wall contstruction, uses castle life(although it's limited) for resource collecting and interesting battles although not the best A.I., but still fun. Also RN just has a little bit of medieval age, if you blink you just might miss it(Rise of Nations joke).
I'm hoping that Rome Total War would come out on the mac.

It's an exellent game.

The demo is okay, it just takes a little getting used to. The idea of a home city that gets better over multiple games is a cool idea, and the use of cards is neat to.
I still like AOE2 more though (long live the Britons).

I have the game. I've finished the campaign and now playing the skirmish mode like crazy The Janisseries and the Sipahi are extremely powerful. I haven't played the other races much, just the campaign ones and the Ottomans and one thing for sure, Ottomans are really powerful in the game. I recommend it to everyone, it's the best rts ever and has an interesting storyline.

Big time AOE and AOEII junkie, along with their expansions. As soon as gunpowder enters, I sort of lose interest....
Empire Earth is cool though when you have galleons and the like....
Considering this AOEIII goes into the 1800's (does it go farther?) it will be interesting. I like the fact that you start out in the high middle ages to rennaisance period.
I have a 2.4ghz pentium 4, 512mb ram, and extreme graphics 2 video card with 64mb shared video memory....will it be enough to handle this game? I bought Stronghold 2 a while back and I have to play on a lower resolution otherwise everthing slows right down....bummer.

Turkey is one of my favourite nations in the game, and janissaries are my favourite unit. Aslo, the Algerian archers are good.Scnicker wrote:I have the game. What storyline are you referring to? Do you mean the campaigns? I don't usually play as single player, as the computer opponent just uses the same strategy every time. Instead, I play on multiplayer sometimes.
P.S. Sorry for drifting into discussing a different game. The admins can split the topic, I suppose.

The same goes for many games these days, its cheaper to produce in eastern europe.Scnicker wrote:Nope, didn't know that, but why would Ensemble Studios produce the gama there? Btw, my friend keeps it as a secret
Its an interesting game, but I got reported that it had "too nice graphics" not sure what that is supposed to mean though.

Ahh... nothing can beat the good old AOE. I have some friends (Adults in their 40s) who play it in the same room. I haven't caught up with the newest ones yet I'm sure its pretty good.
Respectfully submitted,

I looked into the Demo, as I did enjoy the first two AoE games. And you know what? I'm really sick of developers making games that require a 3,000 dollar computer to play. I have a very nice computer, but it's not, as they say, 'optimized for gaming.' Which means I can only play games on low resolution, and some games I can't play at all. It's lame, especially considering two years ago this machine would have been "top of the line."
Sorry for the mini-rant, had to get that off my chest though. You spend 1,500 dollars on a computer.. you expect to be able to play games with it.. but nooooo.

Forge not works of art but swords of death, for therein lies great art.
