I have a very nice computer, but it's not, as they say, 'optimized for gaming.' Which means I can only play games on low resolution, and some games I can't play at all. It's lame, especially considering two years ago this machine would have been "top of the line."

Sorry for the mini-rant, had to get that off my chest though. You spend 1,500 dollars on a computer.. you expect to be able to play games with it.. but nooooo.
Hopefully you bought a computer with some modicum of upgradablity. I just drop in a new CPU and/or graphics card - it isn't that expensive (even a new motherboard and CPU isn't that expensive). I just wait for good sales (kinda like LEGO).

Game companies that don't push the state of the art (and therefore the actual equipment) tend to get left behind. For better or worse, it's the consumers that have the latest and greatest that drive the game industry, and it's been that way for over a decade.

Nope, didn't know that, but why would Ensemble Studios produce the gama there
Actually, I think that your Ensemble studios just translated and reconfigured some aspects, while the makers are Ukrainian. Why else do you think it was called 'Cossacks'?

Yeah.. but I might as well call up Dell and tell them to send me a new one... computer illiterate, I am.

I understand. But it just seems like only the gamers on the very cutting edge of 'gaming technology' can enjoy the good new games. You'd think a company would make better sales if their games were more accessible rather than "you must have devoted your entire life to upgrading your computer in order to play this game."

It's almost an arms race, and the most annoying part is that I'd like to enjoy some computer games without dropping hundreds of dollars on upgrading my computer every two months.

At least if you bought a Playstation 2 when it first came out -- it would STILL be just as useful as the day you bought it, without any upgrades. That's how computer games should be.

Yeah right. A computer is outdated the second you buy that spiffy no video card. It's impossible to keep up.

But I'm just a complainy kind of guy.

Hey.. what does a video game topic have to do with medieval history?

It is pushing the limits a bit on what is off topic or not. I actually just got a new computer so I went out and bought the collectors edition of AOE III. Age has always been a favorite of mine, especially Kings. My edition comes with a nice book with paintings and artwork from the game including historic figures such as Queen Elizabeth I and Napoleon. Plus the game still has medieval units like pikeman and cavalry along with more transitional soldiers like musketeers. I havent had time to play the game much but it looks great. It still cant run at the highest settings even on my brand new computer (but my computer was not top of the line or a gaming computer).

Well, I've had the game for about a week now. And from my lack of posts here on CC, guess what I've been doing?

Yeah, it rocks. Big time.

I recommend it to everyone, it's the best rts ever and has an interesting storyline.
I love the game. I have it and am on a level 57 Dutch hometown. By far the best RTS ever. I love how it includes mideval units as well as them musketeers and cannony thingamajigs.
