Castle for sale...

I was quite suprised to see that the castle of one of the more colorful figures in European "castle" history is up for sale... now what is the exchange rate these days...? :wink:

Hehe... a really nice castle but as far as I know Vlad III never set his foot there

Or maybe he did but his actual castle was called Argeş (couldn´t find a better pic unfortunately)

Bran sure looks nice though, actually I know a Romanian couple who lives in Braşov, maybe I should give them a subtle hint

You're right, he didn't live there. I believe he did visit at least once. But his "real" castle is a ruin, isn't it? So this is closest thing that you could live in.

Yep, that´s what I would call a ruin on the pic I posted... I think the most famous part of it was the 1500 stairs you had to climb to get up there...

History Channel had a show on last night about Vlad Dracol and his building campaign, and Bran Castle was featured, though no mention about it's status. They said he was a guest there. The castle Maedros calls Arges was called "Porenia" (phoenetic, probably mispelled) and they stressed that it was "the real Castle Dracula." Turgovista (phoenetic, ibid.) and several smaller sites were discussed. This is an area I am largely ignorant of, so I found it very interesting.

As far as the insurance, I am in insurance sales and I can tell you that such a building would be virtually uninsurable in the US, however, in some countries they do not have insurance at all, though in most (like Mexico) it is available, but not required. Or course those societies are far less letigious than our own.

Actually Bran was built by the Teutonic Order in the 13th century (or maybe other German settlers a bit earlier, don´t remember) which means that it predates Dracula by 2-3 centuries but it´s quite probable that he rebuilt or renovated it I presume...

Haven´t heard the name Porenia before though... but I guess yoiu could probably be right, I´m no expert either...

Turgovista should be spelled Tirgovişte though

Insurance company CSR:Do you have a mason in mind to take your castle to for an estimate.
Vlad:Yes, I'll be taking it to Ianescu's Siege and Collsion shop.
Insurance company CSR:Was there body damage?
Vlad: Yes
Insurance company CSR:Can you describe it?
Vlad: Right through the middle.
Insurance company CSR:Can you describe the siege?
Vlad:Yeah, this stupid Ottoman turned his army right into me! He didn't even use his flag-signaling system! I even spilled blood on my seat. Do you know what it costs to get blood out of upholstery? Jerk!
