Old Gray Prices
Old Gray Prices
HowD! I have a question. Now that old gray is only available on the secondary market, how fast do you think the price for old gray bricks will go up (I'm thinking specifically Bricklink)?

Here we can see the average price for the last six months is .06 for a new 1x2 old grey brick, whereas the average price now is .07
A slow growth now, but it will grow for the next few years until most of the grey supply on the market is used up. remember, you can still buy old grey in 2003 sets still in many stores.

I disagree.
If you look at any part in any color on BrickLink, the average price for the past six months sales is almost always lower than the average price of currently available parts. That is because people are more likely to buy parts with lower prices.
For example, suppose only three people sell ghosts:
Seller 1: $2
Seller 2: $3
Seller 3: $4
Let's assume they all have an unlimited supply in stock.
Now, the average price of Ghosts currently available would be $3.
However, if you then looked at ghost sales for the past six months, the average selling price would be less than $3 because most people are going to buy their ghosts from the $2 guy.
I used to think the same thing you did, but after a while I started to wonder why every single part's average price seemed higher than the average sales price for the past six months.
