There is a big sets of minifigs that all come with tools and such but they are town figs, not too useful for us. You might be able to a lot of castle piece on ebay if you look long enough but you won't get a ton for fifty bucks.

Um, i haven't actually built my castle yet, but i'm in the same boat that you're in... and for my 1000 brick castle, i can't find anything cheaper then 70.00, so you might not find anything for under 50.00, but if you do, let me know where.......

Bricks cost money. Do you expect people to give them out for free? May I ask how many you actually want? "a buttload" doesn't give a very good understanding of the quantity we're talking about...

LEGO? Not Castle figures. You can get a package of town figures and stuff, I believe, but there are no figure packs anymore. However, Bricklink may be able to help you out. Castle figures can be quite costly there, but if you have the money and really want them...well, you can get them.

A 2000 brick castle? How do you count those 2000 bricks? 2000 bricks including all the landscaping, supports, and small pieces? Or 2000 bricks just creating the main parts of it? Few builders, in my knowledge, decide to build a large project, and then go out and buy all the pieces they need: Most already have a fair amount of bricks, and may just have to buy the pieces they need extra. For example, I try to avoid building any castle structure that will exceed my moderate supply of grey bricks, (I have 1 tub of light grey 2x4's, 1 tub of other light grey sizes, and one partial tub of dark grey and brown,) yet I almost always have to order some extra pieces to finish it off. Such as pieces to finish the crenellations and the like. My most recent large(r) castle model, this gate, probably cost me approximately $75 to create. That includes costs of figures, flags, many of the crenels, and some dark grey pieces. However, if all the parts were bought at once...well, let's say there's no way I would have been able to afford it. Very very well into the hundreds...

Now I'm rambling, so I'll stop. I hope that helped, at least a little.

Bulk Bricks

Post by bannear »

I have just got into the MOC castle stuff myself and bought 15 pounds of grey castle with figures for $125 off someone who advertised on Lugnet. I would say you are looking at spending some money to get a buttload - depending on the size of the ....

I have been reviewing Bricklink and ebay for the last 3 months and found that castle pieces go at premium prices unless you have a lot of money to buy 200 plus figures and bricks. Most mixed lots that include castle usually have only about 10 -15% greys, so it is a bit of work.

I have found that if you target a specific piece that you want on Bricklink, and look for the sellers with no minimum order you can get pieces for cheap, but it take a while to build up. Small mailers are cheap for mailing, so the best ways is to aim for enough parts to fill a small mailer. I have purchased about 40 burps and lurps in the last 2 months 2 or 3 at a time. This has kept my cost low. Look for sellers in your area so you can possible pick up part or the mailing is less, if going for bigger lots. Your cost per piece goes down if you can afford larger bulk lots and sell off the rest.

Also look for figures in the same way. I have purchased all of mine on Bricklink for less than $2 each, or with bulk lots. $2.50 seems to be an average price for basic fig with helmet, but no weapon.

That is my 2 bits. Others may have better ideas.
Cheers,
Bert.

I've found it, the place to get bulk bricks. I suppose it matters what color you need, but I found what I need, today I ordered 2000, yes two thousand black 2 by 4's for how much? no not 200.00, no, not even 50.00, I got them for 24.00, about 1.8 cents a brick. This offer was at Used Bricks Liquidator, on bricklink, and they still have about 1,700 black bricks left, just thought I'd let everyone know, (because) I am stoked, now i'll finally have a castle to house my 75 man army (ya, it's not thart big, but it's growing)

Right, I'm not really in tune with BL prices, but I think that is a demn good deal.

667 (rounded) studs per $ if you count all 8 studs, 333 per $ if you count only length (which I generally do). That's enough to build one level of the perimeter of an 18*18 square per $.
