Where do you get the bulk of your bricks?
I was sitting around looking at my pathetic brick collection when I thought I would ask you all where you got most, or the 'bulk' of your bricks.
Please just don't vote, please state why, etc.

I would concur with the above post. I get mine from various sources. If I had to pick one as the biggest source:
I would say from the sets I buy, but that has greatly changed after the color changes and flesh tones.
Now I'm really into ebay and brickshelf

From Ebay and Bricklink. I like getting large lots from Ebay and I use Bricklink when I need something specific. I buy sets once in a while, but the other two sources are my main ones.

Actually PaB is my secondary source aside from BrickLink.

I get must of my stuff from BrickLink. At first I was buying bulk off eBay, but finding specific items can be hard if not impossible. Also the quality of bricks are better on BrickLink in general (I've bought some real junk on eBay). But I'll go with good deal. Sometimes its eBay, sometimes its BrickLink.
Hello!
Until two years ago I only had the bricks that came with the sets I bought. I often bought sets just because they contained some special bricks I needed. This tactic I still recommend because through sets you not only get some special parts you need *right now* but you also get unspectacular parts that you also need though you never particularly thought of them.
Since about two years I mainly get parts from Pick-a-Brick and BrickLink, though.
Bye

This is just the sort of nonsense up with which I will not put.

Most specialized pieces I own come from various sets I collected during my childhood I have satisfied my need for basic bricks through both shop at home, and bricklink. Now that blay is the new gray, I will only buy the original 2003 gray bulk packs, relying on Bricklink for any specialized elements. There isn't a Pick-a-Brick near me, so that really isn't an option.
As long as old gray is available in some form, I'll survive.

Yes, that's exactly what I've done too. All, and I repeat ALL of my lego bricks are from sets I've bought. It's an expensive but very good idea as Jojo pointed out. These days though I don't buy any of the KK2 sets, I mainly check BrickLink and Ebay for old classic sets for sale.Jojo wrote: I often bought sets just because they contained some special bricks I needed. I get everything from sets I buy, either in stores or on e-bay...
I'm hoping to actually get every castle (not including ninja) set out there... and then I may go to bricklink... for me, if I do bricklink it will be because I am ready to build some serious MOCs and need a lot of basic bricks... I mean, I'm not sure, but I think that is what the strength of bricklink tends to be... a lot of bricks for a fair price. Right now, I feel like all my "building needs" are met with the pieces I get from the Castle, Star Wars, Harry Potter, and various misc. sets I buy.

The enormous bulk of my collection comes froms sets I have bought. For one thing, i hadn't learned of these other options until sometime about a year ago, and secondly because I've really not spent much on LEGO this year, compared with my peak years (about 2002, I'd say).
I'll probably stick with sets for my basic needs, but I forsee a growth in Bricklinking it for parts as well.

This topic belongs in Buy/Sell/Trade. Please keep in mind, you dont have to be buying selling or trading for a discussion to go there. General discussions about purchasing LEGO go there.
I get my LEGO from stores (online and brick and mortar), ebay, auctionbrick, trades, estate sales, etc - basically where ever I find what I want

The sets I buy. For awhile (until I joined CC and learned about BL) my only source of bricks was the sets I got. Now it still is. Though bricklink is becoming more important. (espically after Bley). I am not allowed to use E-bay and I have never thought of buying a bulk pack.
