Site that sells Military Moc's.....

Post by Jacob C. »

I entered "lego military" into my internet search engine in the hopes of finding some interesting military moc's that I could get ideas from. And I found an interesting website...
http://www.mechanizedbrick.com/mb.html

-They basically sell lego military moc's (just vehicles).
The downside is that they are very expensive ($200 for a TANK!!!!)
What are your thoughts?

Those are cool, but the prices are insane! You can get the parts from bricklink for much cheaper and if you know how to do decals, there's no problem. I think it's not worth the money.(even though it's Lego)

Besides I'm not at all fond of military models I would not say that the prices are insane.

You have to bear in mind the builder of these models has to buy those parts himself, the parts are meant to be new or like new, the parts probably come from different BrickLink shops or different sets he bought on retail what causes shipping costs and costs for redundant stuff (from the complete sets) that he can't use in the models. Also he has to create building instructions which costs time, and if he is printing the instructions printer ink is not exactly cheap. Plus you must consider somebody who sells custom sets an artist, and the artist has the right to make some profit after all. I even doubt the seller of those military models makes much profit at all.

Of course the artist needs to make some profit, but I still think that the models are a bit overpriced. If he buys his material from bulk stores, he can really easily make a profit.
I' don't really understand economy or what so ever, alas, I think the artist must pull down the prices.

They look cool. And I think they're not that much overpriced. If he had them cheap people would be buying them left and right. he would be quite busy building.

Plus as JoJo said there is time, ink, and who know waht else that goes into these s.
Space rocks.

These are very very well done... and cool...

Although I certainly understand the reason for the price, I could never justify spending that amount of money on even the best castle MOCs that are out there unless I was getting a nice number of bricks... just my 2 cents (though)... I think that after awhile, it's better to just create your own thing (for your wallet especially!)

Not overpriced??. 750pieces for 215..

Lego has the STar destroyer for 300 and you gt 3,104 pieces.

Hm... I think thats a bit too extreme, even if they designed it and all.

Would you be saying the same if Dan Siskind was selling his sets again?

If I was truly into military MOC's, then I'd agree with JoJo. These are reasonable priced custom sets.

He doesn't exactly state which version, but I'd reckon a guess that those are made of old grey bricks, which we know to be rather expensive and considerably more rare in the quantities needed.

For the collector and the artist, I think the prices are reasonable. I might pay that for a high-quality castle set.

You can also try Daniel Siskind's military customs. http://www.brickmania.com He is the guy from whom Lego bought the license to the Blacksmith Shop set.

Of course we all know Lego will NEVER buy the license to his military sets..... *sigh* :x

Heh heh heh... yea, I remember when he was selling those sets... it was torture - but thats how I finally came to my conclusion... I surely understand those who justify spending the cash... but; just can't get myself to do it.

Well think of it this way...

Using the ISD as a guide, 750 pieces should cost ~$75.
Now, Lego can manufacture a pitchfork for a few cents. However, the market for a pitchfork is usually over 10 dollars. In the case of these military MOCs, several rarer/harder to find pieces might (and probably are) used. Supposing this guy gets his parts from Bricklink, that might jack the price up by up to $75. Remember, he has to buy pieces Lego can simply manufacture while TLC can simply churn out millions of parts for a fraction of the price. Then you have to factor in the design and packaging time. Time = Money, so add about $20 there. Add $45 for profit, and there you have it.

Now, he *could* cut back and bring the price down to $175 or something, but that’s probably not going to happen.

As it stands, these are great sets even if they are a bit pricy. Should I ever want one of them I’d just buy the instruction book and go from there.

I checked out the website once again and realized that you can also just buy the directions for $20 per model which I guess isn't too bad.
I might do that & then buy all the required pieces in bulk & make a lego army!
Of course we all know Lego will NEVER buy the license to his military sets..... *sigh*
I never quite understood why Lego will not make military sets......I don't think it would offend anyone?? And Lego doesn't have to assign a country of origin to any particular military models. They could make a fictional lego country with fictional lego weaponry, etc. (well actually Lego does have the Red Baron Triplane & Sopwith Camel from WWI equipped with machine guns!!! why no tanks or armoured vehicles?)

Of course I have no idea for sure, but I've wondered this too, and all I can think of is that they are afraid they will offend ppl, or that it will change the image of the company... it took them forever just to move to yellow heads with facial hair, much less annoyed expressions. :P
