Restricted websites (content control, web filtering)

This got started as an off-topic discussion in a thread somewhere, so I'm continuing it here:

How come some people can't view flickr, is it restricted somehow in the area or is it the browser that can't handle it? If it is the latter case, what browser do you have?

Flickr has, due to some of the contents, ended up on a lot of blacklists used by various content-control software, used typically in schools, workplaces or at home by administrators/parents to censor the web for their students/employees/children.

Wobnam hit the nail on the head. It is restricted by my internet provider. Integrity.com. Is flickr a lego-only site like brickshelf? Or is it a more general site that Lego enthusiasts use?

Voran; Flickr is not LEGO-specific, it's just a place to share photos.

It's very popular because it has a lot of functionality for sharing, finding and commenting on pictures. The most famous function, I guess, is that it allows users to add comments to a specific part of the picture. Someone else can probably explain it better, but it's very useful for commenting on LEGO creations.

One resen it may be restricted is you can upload any photo you want without it being moderated. So you could put inapropiate stuff on there.

Could? There is a TON of inappropriate material on there. A TON of amazing, incredible work as well, but yeah, you could get your porn fix on Flickr, too.

Could? There is a TON of inappropriate material on there. A TON of amazing, incredible work as well, but yeah, you could get your porn fix on Flickr, too.
