Where to go after Flickr Closes?

Folks,
I'm not sure where to post this, so I'll post it here and I'm sure the Mods with move it if necessary. Where do people suggest we post and edit our photos after Flickr closes in April? What alternatives are out there?

there's brickshelf(which is notoriously unreliable) and MOC pages.

I'm guessing Flickr isn't closing, rumors like this surface every other day about every service on the net.

First of all this topic probably belongs in publishing, so I'm going to move it after I post.

After I read this, I went to research a little. I found some interesting comments by flickr users, but no actual research to back up the thoughts that flickr would close.

BUT...having said that, it does bring up an interesting question. How does one back up their flickr photos in an easy way? I think its a good question seeing as flickr tends to bend to the legal threats issued to them and does delete at their own discretion.

I keep backups locally and, of some things, with other online hosts.

If Flickr close - which I think it won't, there'll be long line of buyers if Yahoo decided they didn't want Flickr anymore - the void would be filled by a new site, and most people would move there.

I'd heard that they were going to move away from Picnik (which edits photos) in April, but everything else they've said makes it sound like they have lots of on-going plans. But I haven't researched it. I also do think they have apps in their app garden that will back up your stuff for you. I used to try one that backed up stats, but it was kind of hard to use. There are others, but I haven't investigated those, either. But I think they're there, if someone were to look.

Edited to add this link about the closing of Picnik in April: http://www.flickr.com/help/picnik/#

When I opened flickr recently a window popped up saying that flickr was closing in April. If it is a hoax, I am glad I didn't give any info and log in every time.

I've just been on Flickr, and didn't see any notices of an impending closure. I also went over to Picnik, and did find a pop-up window as legokilt was describing, talking about their (Picnik's) imminent closure, scheduled for April 19th.

I applaud Azaghal for the fine detective work and amend my comment. It was on Picnic I saw the closure message. So, I now repose my question, where do people go to rework their photos if not picnic? Thanks,

Hey,

I would highly recommend Gimp a free program with much of the power of Photoshop.

Flickr said they were going to have an alternative. It just hasn't been announced yet.

Seconded. Excellent program, though it takes a little bit of work to figure out all of the features if you aren't PS savvy.

I now edit all of my uploads with gimp, and love the program. Yes, it is hard to get used to, but the results are fantastic.

On the flickr blog today, they announced their replacement for Piknik: http://blog.flickr.net/en/2012/04/04/an ... om-aviary/

It's a new photo editor from aviary. Supposedly it will be faster. It will be rolling out in the next two weeks.
