Photographing black mocs?

Post by Ferretclaw »

Yep, just looking for tips for photographing an almost exclusively black moc. I have tried, it always comes out so that you just cant see the detail in it. (An' I try... And I try... And I try... And i try! I can get no... Satisfaction)
So any help is appreciated.

And this is why you don't see many all black builds. Photography with them is difficult. You can mess with the settings on your camera and try different things. Also you can try to play with brightness and contrast once you've taken the picture. Sava has a way to get black looking good. I don't know the method he used but you could always private message him and ask.

Yeah... I have read somewhere that photographing against a black background helps it show detail more, but I am not so sure... I will most likely get a good picture eventally :?

I just use two white light bulb, a white background and a simple photo editor ( the one I use when I edit pictures with google+ ) and that's it. I have been able to get some very good pictures. Here's a sample of one of my mostly black creation:

You can see more of my Blacktron creation in my Blacktron folder on flickr to get a better idea of the possibility of this technique http://www.flickr.com/photos/57236294@N ... 054582818/

Good luck and I hope it helps.

These are what I use to get all black MOCs photograph well:

Solid, neutral background
Multiple "True White" (5000K-5500K) light sources
Tripod
30 second exposure

Thank you. How much does a "true white" light bulb coat and where could I find one?
