Hey,

Did I do something wrong, or did Flickr just screw with us again?

Not just you. New "beta" version is up, and it sucks. It is incredibly cumbersome to navigate quickly. I don't want to have to click a button to see the photo description. I'd rather just roll down quickly with my mouse wheel. I have plenty of other gripes as well. Stupid Flickr

Well, it doesn't really matter for me, as I found out a way to go back to the original one, before the beta. So much better!

(Don't ask me how, I don't really remember what I clicked, but whatever I clicked it worked! ) It says on the photo on the bottom left corner if I want to go back to the new beta, I am never clicking that!

Found a workaround, at least for now. Someone mentioned things were not changed for users in other languages. I have my Chrome set to automatically translate French to English, and so I set my default language in Flickr to French. Voila! There's a brief pause as Chrome re-translates back to English, but I get my old (well, at least prior to this most recent change) version of Flickr back.
Of course, eventually Flickr will implement the newer interface for everyone, so I'm sure I'll be back in the same boat again eventually, but for now i'm less annoyed.

Can you provide steps on how to do that, Bruce? I really can't bear to use the new version of Flickr.

Agreed AK. I need a step by step manual here.
Why do they feel it is necessary to continue to change things?

I just noticed that notes are no longer an available tool, nor can you read notes previously posted on photos. Talk about a train wreck!

On Chrome the webpage translation seems to be an automatic feature. If you go to something like hothbricks or fanabriques, a pop-up will appear saying something like "This page is in French, do you want to translate it?" You'll get options for 'yes', 'no', 'always translate', and 'never translate'. Pick 'always translate'.

Then, when you log in to Flickr, scroll down to the bottom (obviously, don't do this on one of the annoying 'endless scroll down' pages). Across the bottom you will see something in chinese (I assume), 'Deutsch', 'English', 'Espanol', 'Francaise' etc. Click 'Francaise' to make French your default language. It seems to work okay for me - sometimes you get some odd phrases, since the automated translation from the French version of the site isn't always perfect, but at least I can see notes etc.

OK, thanks Bruce. I've been trying it, and it really doesn't work all that well for me as far as translating, but even in French, which I have zero understanding of, the site is still more functional than using the new version.

Hopefully they figure it out soon. The feedback thread is pretty much 99% negative right now.

I am going to come out and say I haven't had any changes that are being talked about in this thread.

I had an update which switched the comments panel to the right-hand side (I assume this is the change we're talking about) but managed to revert back to the previous version by opting out of beta somehow. I'm guessing they'll switch everyone over at some point, but it is definately a negative for many aspects of the AFOL/TFOL community that operate over there. It does feel a bit like they're actively trying to discourage an sort of 'community' and rather focus purely on the pictures (which I guess for a photography site, makes some sense), but they seem to forget that it's the communities that keep people coming back.

I've (non-AFOL) friends that take amazing photos (scenery etc) and can't work out why my stupid pictures of a minifigure gets hundreds of views compared to their pictures. Flickr seem to be shooting themselves in the foot by alienating some of their core users. I'm sure there must be other communities operating on flickr, it would be interesting to know how they feel about it.

I hadn't even gotten used to the last version, an then they switch me to this Swill .... I cant even navigate! non of my tabs work other then to upload! this is crap are they now owned by Microsoft or what An people wonder why I still use my Photobucket...

Actually I am kinda liking the new layout. Once I figured out where things were. I do have an issue with the NOTE option. I cannot see how to add NOTES and that was a key feature for me.

They've taken away notes. Also, the fact that you have to click several times just to see comments and/or the photo description is incredibly annoying and time consuming when going through multiple photos. I've also been told that the "sets" have disappeared, that comments can't be edited, and several other major issues. I'm sticking with French Flickr for now.
