I need some help on making images smaller.

Most digital cameras or scanners will come with software to help you edit your images. I personally use Photoshop, a commercially available program. There is also a free program, GIMP. Kevin has written up a how-to that describes how to use this program:

The title does not say it all.

Do you have image editing software, or are you seeking advice on what to use? If seeking advice on software, what operating system are you using, and what price range are you looking for? (free is an option)


If you have image editing software and need help using it, what software is it and what exactly are you trying to do? Are you trying to remove irrelevant portions from the sides of the image, (Crop) are you trying to just make the whole thing smaller, or are you trying to keep it the same size but reduce file size? (For most pictures, it is best to do all three of these things)


If you are using a Mac, which is unlikely, I would recommend Graphic Converter. It will do all of the basic image processing you need without the unnecessary complexity of Photoshop or GIMP. It's also free. I would imagine that something similar (and free) is available for Windows.

If you're talking about the size of the picture itself, I use the 'Stretch/Skew' option in paint. After this, click on the 'Save As' button so that you don't lose the original picture (in case you accidentily made it too small). Then I just check the 'Attributes' in the 'Image' drop down menu to see if the picture is the right size (it can be measured in inches, centimeters or pixels). I've noticed that sometimes the altered attributes will only be available after you save the file.
You can actually edit the size of the picture in the Atrributes menu, but that never seems to work out well for me, for some reason.

If you upload your images to BrickShelf they make the thumbnails for you. The small images you see in the gallery pages are fully functional images, too, and you can use them as thumbnails everywhere in the net, like Classic-Castle. Just rightclick on the small BrickShelf thumbnail, chose "properties" -> "URL" -> mark complete URL -> copy complete URL -> paste the URL just like you would do with the URL of a big picture as well.
