About the Forum (Response Needed)

Post by Shadow »

Hey Everybody!

I was wondering where CC got the template for this forum. Also... I have noticed that some of you have your own forums generated by phpbb and are using them off of a free website (i.e. geocities.com). I'm probably going to start mine but would like some input on how to make a forum on a free web address.

If this isn't in the correct category please send it where it belongs.

I'm pretty sure this is the wrong place to post... probally publishing or something.

Anyway, I think CC got their template from downloading PhP (http://www.phpbb.com/index.php). They've done a lot of great customization, but I'm pretty sure it's still the PhP template.

I use the invisionfree site, it's a free web site that works well, but I have to confess to being a little worried about their diligence in backing up data... I hope they have some kind of back-up plan.

I'm not sure of the others... there are so many lately! We are like the sons of CC or something.

It took me a little while to figure out how to use it effectively, but freewebs works pretty well. When you're building your site there, the trick is to stick with the toolbar on the left (you'll know it when you see it). It's really easy to update your site there, too. The only downside is that they only give you seven pages with a free account.

If you want an example, here's my site. (Shameless plug )

For a site use geocities or freewebs.

For forums check out mine. I used proboards.com.

You have to put a link to the forums on the freewebs page.

Build your forum first, using the stuff phpbb gave you when you downloaded it. Then all you have to do is put a link on one of your freewebs pages that goes to the forums (freewebs won't let you use the forums as part of your site, so the linking is the only way I know of.). Just make sure the link is in a place where lots of people can see!
