The thoughts and suggestions of CC Gamers...

Post by ottoatm »

I've been working a bit on a map for roleplayers over at CW, and finally arrived at something I'd like to submit to the veteran gamers here for suggestions and improvements.

Seeing how I'm no Fry_Slayer (as will be obvious when you view the map), I'm unsure of how much more I can improve it, but I'd like to hear the thoughts of you experienced gamers ("too much water"... "not enough water"... etc) here might think, if possible. :)

The link to a pretty large image.... CW Map

Oh... and almost all credit for shields/heraldry goes to the expert work of a Mr. Sava, who's shields have time and again saved me untold hours of stress... (and who will get full credit when the RPG is going of course! 8) )

Ok heres my strategy as Falcon King:

Sign peace than alliance treaty with crusaders, then my forces will isolate forestman and thus forbidding them from any chance or banding with Wolf pack while crusaders "assimilate" the forestman into their Kingdom, by force or means necessary. We crushed the wolfpack then move west to "tame" the black knights and dragon master, 3v2 we have better odds, Black knight first as they have no dragons.

Island united into "Golden Kingdom Alliance" we move east, Fright Knight should not be more than a speed bum in the face of combined might. Grateful of us disposing his insidious southern thorn and posses a similar "good guys" mindset, KK2 Royal Lion King can be "persuaded" into our course, bonds were further strengthend after we crushed the bulls together. KK1 Royal King has no choice for either join us or face total annihilation. We stormed north and put an end to Vladek and his clone army's presence and meet up with the Jellybeans.

With countless minifigs at our side and a higher goal in persuade, we enroll all jellybeans to our course and sail east yet again. Destination: Black Continent; Mission: Total annihilation of Megabloks. All Jelly knights line up in the front please, the grand battle has just began, did i mention we take no prisoners?

P.S Now some body will have to deal with the horned raiders, can anyone send letter to the United Classic Kingdom and tell them we are on a very important mission and watch our back?

And oh, nice map, from which game did you got the nice vintage tiles of trees, mountains and fortress? Looks like something from the old 8bit TV games era feel, and i can see how you are trying to arrange the kingdoms and sets in terms of chronological castle line  I like it

That was a good read right there, actually. :) Glad you liked the layout of the map... I have a small problem in that I always do that when I deal with Castle LEGO, the map for my seperate LEGO story is the same way, I just can't see the folks from the Yellow castle as anything but the founders of the castle civilizations. :P

For the graphics, I used a tileset from Dragon Warrior 1 - from the Nintendo system. The first RPG I ever played, it has a permanent space in my lil heart. Also, being a bit weak on the graphics side of life, I learned to borrow often and without shame. :D

I've added all those ugly gridlines (Update),and had some questions...

Is there an established measure for how many squares can a common boat travel in one "turn"... a horse... a fig? It seems things could go very wrong if one character is travelling the world to a battle, and the other is next door but cannot make it in time.

Overall, I'd say that you've done an excellent job of rectifying in your map some of the deficiencies that I think exist in the CCRP one.

First of all, you have a large, open body of water. To make sea travel (or air travel) an important element, I think it better to have water at the centre of the map, rather than land.

I'm also impressed that you've pared down the number actual factions (or so it seems). I'm also impressed that the factions vary somewhat more in size than the very balanced CCRP map.

To sum: it looks good to me.

Since I don't do the role-playing thing, I'm not sure that I can really comment too much about the map, but in my opinion it looks great. :)

I'm not sure how you made the map, but I wanted to point out that there's several pieces of software available for making maps for RPGs. The one I'm most familiar with is Campaign Cartographer. You should be able to download a demo if you want to try it out.
Hoping to have a witty signature and cool avatar one day.

The CCRP never had one... but posts could encompass weeks or months at times of "RP time" since we sometimes had to play catch-up.

On the other hand, it would have been nice to have a standard of travel... Sometimes things seemed a little... vague.

These graphics have really grown on me, actually.

It'll be great to have some people for the RPG there... I actually will probally return the favor to CC by joining there's in the near future... however, since I've never done it before, it's nice to start small.

I like the map, but there may be just a little bit to much water. Still the map is very well done.

What forum is the roleplay map for?

Looks kinda interesting. I might join.

Just wanted to say that I checked this out a bit - although there is a bit of a learning curve, it is a really cool resource that I may use in the future... thanks for the link.

This forum is a LEGO Story-writer's forum called Castle World Since the main focus of the forum is LEGO Story-reading/writing, it seemed an RPG was a natural extension (No more advertising, promise!)

Thanks for everyone's feedback so far - it's given me a fair amount of ideas/guidelines to discuss with the CW forum members, and still open to suggestions.
