Could someone make an avatar for me?

Post by smcginnis »

I would like for someone to please make me an avatar, using Anthony's triangular shield template from the how-to article. It would be (I found this on a site):
http://www.biographiks.com/pleasant/ireland.htm wrote:Vert, a lion rampant or, on a chief argent a dexter hand erect, couped at the wrist gules.
This is my family (McGinnis) coat-of-arms, and I would like for someone who is good at drawing to make either a whole shield, or the hand and lion (I could make the field and chief). When (if), somebody makes it, they could upload the file to their Brickshelf, and then PM it to me. I could then download it to my CPU, and upload it to B-Shelf or C-C.

Thanks,
~smcginnis

P.S. I think this is the right forum, and I don't think that it could be done by PM, since I wouldn't know who to PM.

Edit: For those of you who are good at drawing, but don't know heraldry, there is a Basic Heraldry article in the How-To section of this site.

Edit Two: If you copy and paste the "so-and-so wrote" (and remove the space and the "wrote") into your address bar, you can see an example of the shield.

Say it "ESS-MICK-GIN-ISS", with a hard "G", as in "get".

Would this work?

All i did was cut it out of the picture you linked to. So I'm not sure if that what you wanted.

Edit: Freak posted while I was, I'm sure he can make something better then that.

Thanks both of you. I'll probably use Freak's for now. Thanks again.

~smcginnis

Edit: I'm using Dillon's because Freak's is two kilobytes too big for an avatar. I like them both, but I just thought that Freak's looked better. Sorry, Dillon (hey, at least I'm using it ).

I'm sorry, but it's still 12 KB. Classic-castle only allows images of 10 KB's or smaller for avatars. To see what I mean, click on "Profile" under the banner, and scroll down to where your avatar is. I tried to resize it in Photoshop, but I wasn't successful.

Edit: Just in case you were wondering, the pixel dimensions are all right, it's the file size that's too large. Sorry for all the trouble, I'll ask my dad to help me resize it when he gets home.

I copied LegoFreak's to see what I could do. It says the file is only 9.96 Kb. I don't claim victory, though. Nice job Legofreak!

Fixed (only 4KB).

Yes the file was really only 9.96 KB but due to the way disks are commonly formatted for Windows, data is only written in 4KB chunks, so it would take 12KB to store this image.
Hoping to have a witty signature and cool avatar one day.

Thanks for all the help everyone. I'm using Anubisconq's mod right now, and I'm glad to see it's working.

Hmm, well, I use a Mac, but it might be the same thing; or maybe, since Freak probably uses Windows, it might have been exported as such. Anyway, I now have an avatar that I'll probably use for a while. I'll put credit in my sig, if you like.

hehe, well, you got it figured out dude. congrats.
btw - I used simple cut and past techniques, and if you are interested in heraldry and customs go here
http://www.digiserve.com/heraldry/clipart.htm
and go to Shareware clipart collection.

They are all .gif files from Don Phillips, and they are easy to use in a variety of programs. - no drawing involved.. sorry to spoil the mystery :D

I was wondering how you got it done so well, so fast . I don't mind that you didn't make it completely. That's a cool site, thanks for the link.
