I was wondering how you view .dat files? I always have problems when I even consider trying to figure it out and I can never figure out what I am doing wrong. Please help

I believe you cannot view .dat files normally as they are program archives, but there's software which is able to extract and run their content. Anyway I will not reccomend the use of such software if it does not come as a setup or installer with the respective data. Otherwise you may cause significant damage to your system.

Anyway what's that to do with LEGO?

Nothing in this forum. Possibly in Publishing, so it's being moved there.

I presume, Dusty, that there is some sort of LEGO-related document/file you're trying to view.

Perhaps a ldraw related file? If it is not LEGO related please do not post it. Thanks.

Yes, LDraw files are called DAT files. For instance, see this lugnet.cad post which seems to be the code for a tire. Unfortunately I have only lightly dabbled in LDraw, so I don't know how to import these files. I'm guessing the software you need can be downloaded from this LDraw.org page.
