Wolfpack Tower Redux - UPDATE, now on FLickr, etc...

Post by wunztwice »

Well folks, some of you have heard me talk of it, a few have actually seen it displayed, but now here is the official announcement!

--UPDATE--
I've uploaded all the pics of this MOC to Flickr in order to comment and add points of interest right on the pics. Check 'em out if ye wanteth!!!
LINK TO FLICKR

I have completed and re-constructed my Wolfpack Tower Redux MOC after it's Brickfest travels.
It was originally inspired by the set (6075) and the set reveiw here at C-C right the CCC in January.

Image
Pic links to Brickshelf gallery
(BTW There are two pages)

Some notables:

*It is NOT made out of any bley, that was just the lighting...

*Every WP set is represented, look for them!

*You'll see many important features in the MOC that throw back to the set, including:
~ decorated "corner panel" to match the set
~ inner "courtyard" collapsed into the water with chests
~ grey highlights to match the set
~ nearly everything is double the size
~ ghost in rear tower
~ many other small similarities (ie lamps in place and a rock base...)

* Other features include:
~ Gargoyle above gate
~ lightup fireplaces/chimney
~ all floors have access via hinged walls
~ Use of WP keychain torso
~ (here's one the Brickfest people will get; a "squid" under the bridge, we must have missed it...)

*Use of my stream technique (link to the seed part challenge intro)

This was my first castle in black, and I think that it turned out well.
I plan on doing some more set redux MOCs, but we'll have to see if time allows.

I am SUPER interested in any comments AND criticisms!!!

This is quite impressive. I really like the whole foresty atmosphere, as well as the architecture and colouration. This is probably my favourite creation of yours.

You did an excellent job with this. I love the walkway, along with the landscaping on the other platform. But really, would wolfpack have a tower.
They seem more like Barbarians.

Brilliant Chris :) This would have to be your finest creation to date. It really does look like a vastly improved version of the set. I have never been a big fan of the black / grey combo but it had to be done to stay true to the faction set design & you have carried it off well.

Very nice. I do have a question though: How do you do your landscaping? I've seen many variations, and the one I use must be the worst. I see you use duplo for the "dark grey underground," but how do you support the green plates? When I do it, it is very fragile, even though it looks ok afterwards

Very well done. I have yet to master that off-set wall technique you have displayed excellently. I should probably pick up some hinges first :D

I'm forever meaning to create something substantial that's Wolfpack related!

This is really impressive, and the colour scheme and continuation of the line as a whole is really accurate- one could imagine that if Wolfpack had been given a longer run a fortress like this would be a reality.

It's great seeing the inclusion of the SNOT stream in a more complete setting, and the landscape throughout the MOC is absolutely sublime.

Nice collection of figures too- you didn't miss that fig you gave me too much did you?

Nice one, this is really inspiring.

Wow, fantastic. The inclusion of every (wow, if you're not kidding) Wolfpack set is amazing, and the MOC itself is abosolutely brilliant. I like the guy putting on (or taking off) his armour, and the Cheese slopes as cheese is cool. (the rat is also a nice addition) Also, is that Momo I spy in a tree? Anyway, very cool.
...and that's how Equestria was made!

This is stunning, Chris. :) You've captured and kept the shape very well, and it looks absolutely great overall...
I've actually been planning to do a similar creation based off the Wolfpack Tower after I've finished a few smaller creations, but this is much better than anything I would've done.
I don't really have anything else to say... :P Great work!

This is great for two reasons

First, you did an awesome job, every little detail is great and including all the 3 wolfpack set is great. I was noticing on the back of the tower that you used grey to make it look like the black angled corner pieces have the blocks holding them together like the original smaller version. Just incredible. Not an original idea but and original way to blow it up to a much larger more dynamic size.

Two, it makes me want to rebuild medium size sets in a large or more excitng way similar to what you have done here.

In summary, great build with lots of inspirering tidbits and this makes me want to build more.

PS thanks for a million pictures, sometimes these great builds do not get shared properly by a small amount of pictures.

Great Job.

Thanks tons everyone. I was really excited to post this, its great to get this kind of response!

I always thought of the set (since it has no real floor) as an abandoned tower. I tried to carry that over to this MOC, basically like if maybe a noble's keep collapsed some and he moved out, or some such. The wolf pack just inhabit it, they didn't build it.

WOW! That means alot, thanks a ton! :D

Nope, that fig is yours! I have a good amount of WP I think.
And thanks for your kind words!

Good eyes Shadow. Yeah there is a ton of detail I couldn't really capture well with a camera and the lighting in my room. But yeah, all three sets are represented (see the list at BL search sets for Wolfpack). Also, that tosro in the tower I accedentally broke taking the keychain apart, I thought it was a nice use. (and yes I snuck that momo thing in, just because...)...

Well, first of all, thanks! As to the angled wall, this was actually my first try at that. It took me quite a while to ge tthe first one to work well, but after figuring out the geometry (trial and error) the others were fairly easy.

Wow, I'm flattered and a bit embarassed.
I don't want to discourage you at all. Please go ahead with your other MOC, I would very much liek to see it, if you still want to!

Heh, thanks alot, I really tried hard to get this MOC just right. Its great to have folks pick up on alot of the stuff I really tried on. Yeah those grey bits to emulate the same pattern are one of my favorite things about how this turned out.
As far as other simelar medium-sized sets, I plan on doing a bunch mroe eventually, but please feel free yourself. I would love to compare if we end up trying the same set!

As to the photos; yeah I always hate that too, that's why I took so gosh darn many. Man it takes forever to edit, sort, organize, and upload all of them (esp to brickshelf, that place needs a bulk upload tool like Flickr...)

Again thanks everyone for your very kind and encouraging words. I am super glad you like it, but don't be afraid to mention any dislikes too!!!

Well, that does it for this novel but I'd be glad to accept any more comments (AND criticisms!!!).
