Nurenburg Toyfair Pics

Post by Athos »

Hey all,

Just spotted this while perusing http://www.eurobricks.com forum. Guess there is one plus to being up at 3:30 am... Some new pics of HP4 and the Vikings et. al.:

http://www.legacek.cz/InfoPage.asp?TP=FT&ID=59

My thoughts on HP4:
1. I wonder if all those burps are part of the display only, or come with the Horntail Set?
2. D*** only one merfolk. I wanted at least two.
3. Ship looks very interesting. Very tall.
4. Graveyard looks interesting. Lots of dark bley. I'd like to see some more pics.

Vikings still look interesting, but not so much as they did before.

Check it out,
Steve

Nooooo! The Durmstrang boat is based on Jack Stone Pirate. :x

OTOH, the graveyard scene looks awesomely dark and foreboding (also lots of great elements for castle-y or horror-y creations).

I'm not overly thrilled by the molded dragon for the First Task, but in that same pic you see the new Mer-people fishtail-leg element. I'd love a whole army (school?) of these. Hopefully they'll give us more than one in the actual set.

There are also a lot of pics of the vikings, with good close-ups of the weapons, printed shields, and that new tooth/horn/claw element. It's still unclear whether those are production helments or prototypes. Also - no beards - again, this may (crossing fingers) be a production issue and not a reflection of the ultimate set release.

Hmm, it's interesting to see that there's an odd Bionicle/castle hybrid in addition to the Bionicle-y bits in the Viking line. Is this a signal that Bionicle and System are going to merge more and more in the future?

Other stuff I think we've all seen, but the Designer sets look really good as always. Tons of Duplo, including a Duplo/Belville line. Why are Duplo castles so much better than KKII?

Looking at the Viking pics...... Where are all the Vikings? Fig count seems a LOT lower than some of the earlier pics we have seen.... Lots of molded pieces

The merperson has possibilities. The Jack Stone pirate boat, as Bruce pointed out

There should be some better pics from some of our German friends in the next couple days (1000steine perhaps) I would like to see more of the longboat and a bit more of the dragons as well.

About the figs, maybe they were soooo cool that some visitors pocketed some of them before these pics were taken?!

Thanks for the pics. I don't think the vikings look as good as they did in the previous pictures. They're using kk2 swords. It's a good thing some of them have got euro armour though.
I don't like the look of these dragons that much. Lots of premolded pieces.
Also the ship doesnt look to good.

7019 : http://www.legacek.cz/files/norimberk/956.jpg This looks like it has been changed quite a lot. There are hardly any spears sticking out the walls anymore, just on top of the walls.. Look at the weird seats mounted on the walls with the spears. They look like some sort of laser zapper. And look at the catapult, their flinging grey heads. ha ha, emperor palpatine gets what he deserves.
I think i liked the old version better.

7018: http://www.legacek.cz/files/norimberk/957.jpg I think they also changed this for the worse. There are lots of premolded pieces. I know the it would be hard to make the hull any other way but i liked the dragon head better the way it was before, made with lots of pieces.
Also that big chunky burning arrow flinging thing looks out of place.

t least the helmets look pretty good http://www.legacek.cz/files/norimberk/951.jpg , but no beards :x

http://www.legacek.cz/files/norimberk/947.jpg There's a black falcon shield on this ship!! I wonder if it's just a prototype or wether It's really going to be included

http://www.legacek.cz/files/norimberk/954.jpg There seems to be some kind of chainmail under the helmet of the guy sitting on the catapult type thing. Or could it be that the head is actually gray and the face just printed on? I'm not sure but i don't htink so. Also there's a different type of helmet with two colours on the viking in the bottom right corner
edit: looking at this pic http://www.legacek.cz/files/norimberk/952.jpg , there is a guy on it with a grey printed head

I have mixed feelings about all this. Here's my thought's summed up:

City: This is looking really good. All the sets have decent designs. The large dumptruck looks good, but that big premold throws it out of whack. It's one of those pieces that only-look-good-on-the-set-it-came-with.

Harry Potter: The sets look good, but the ship is - odd. It fits, but I can't imagining making anything outside the set with it. the underwater stuff is interesting, but useless.

KKII: This falls in the middle. It's not very good looking, but it's not awful either. I like that brown winch on the castle.

Vikings: WHY did they change it? The first pics were awesome looking (in reference to the longship). Still, I might pick up one, two if I like it. The rest of the line is so-soish. I might get the smaller longboat too. Pretty clever sticking two boats together like that...

I will not comment on Bionicle, Belville, or Duplo as I do not care about them. Why must Duplo get better castle sets though?

The viking in this pic is seemingly wearing a chainmail coif:

http://www.legacek.cz/files/norimberk/951.jpg

A must have for a Crusade!

These damned dragons keep getting worse: http://www.legacek.cz/files/norimberk/955.jpg

And why would TLC make a separate mold for another new dragon (aren't they supposed to be cutting costs)? This pice of crap is ugly too, I might by one to scare little children away from my collection!

http://www.legacek.cz/files/norimberk/950.jpg

(In that above pic ^ is that a shark eating a guy?)

I do like seeing a black falcon sheild, and the new Pheonix one!

http://www.legacek.cz/files/norimberk/950.jpg

and It looks like were getting the new KKII armor, and A new sheild for the Vlad man:

=================================

Wow, there is a lot going on in the castle world right now. Even though its not even close to being as good as castle in the golden age, and these things couldn't even stand up to a LEGEND.

But there is more castle other than system too, lots of it!

For system Castle:

KKII 2- An ok Castle line.
Vikings- Will work great with any castle.
Harry Potter- Who can deny that we all use HP parts? Lots of Bley too.

Duplo Castle:

Duplo Castle- It looks like Castle alright!
Duplo (For Girls?) Castle- A fairy tale line.

Other:

Bionicle: Thats defintaly some sorta fortification!

So...Will 2005 be "Year of the Castle?"

I think the viking sets still look nice, the fortress looks OK to me. A little to many catapults maybe...

Hey, if I get six minifigs in one set I'll be happy!

And the dragons are very nice too IMO. Do'nt know about the HP sts though, the colours seems awfully dark~

And what is up with that ship? Looks stupid. Like the peach people less and less every time I see them.

Joel.

:D Sweetness!

I admit I'm just a bit dissapointed with the longship...but nothing a little modification can't change

I'm really excited about the three part hulls, too! Now I can make the ship longer! The premolded head annoys me, but I'll just pop that off an build something better. All the shields look great, and so does the axe, though I'm dissappointed in the inclusion of KK2 swords. :?

The smaller longboat is cool too, a good idea putting two boats back to back. But where are the sets with the wolf and squid? :(

It looks like the helm come in three colors: black, gold and rub-n-buff. Also this confirms that the new claws/horns are removable!

The fortress is a little empty, but again, nothing I can't fix.

I love the shields, some of them look like they have runes on them! :o

So, all in all, one tiny dissapointment, several confirmations, and a lot of longing for Fall to hurry up and come! :D

Nope. In book 4, Victor Krum transfigures his head into a shark for the second task. Fleur and Cedric use bubble-head charms, and Harry uses Gillyweed.

I personally like most of the stuff. I"d rather see it in person before I make my decision.

I wasn't the biggest fan of them to begin with but they get worse everytime we get new pictures. By the end they will be worse than KK2.
I think that's a bit harsh. I agree that most of the changes to the Viking line have been for the worst (ie. no beards), yet the line still has alot going for it.

I made a number of observations in the other Nurenberg thread, but I feel they are worth repeating.

The "Rub n Buff" look featured in the new Viking sets really doesn't appeal to me. It doesn't seem to fit in well with traditional LEGO bricks. I'm not that upset by the changes to 7019. The set still includes a large number of pieces, and has a great modular design. A few of these and you could build a decent Motte and Bailey castle. The number of good pieces in this set still outweigh the bad. I am annoyed by the reduced figure count in 7018, but the set is still not that bad. I also think that 7016 (the smaller boat with the mast) is a marked improvement over the earlier model.

I'll pass on most of the Harry Potter stuff! The Durmstrang looks just awful! If there was another mast, and two more mid-sections, this might have looked good. There's no way I'm spending $30 or more on this! The graveyard is plagued by bley, so I really can't justify purchasing it either. Overall, Harry Potter just doesn't do it for me this year.

Most interesting is the KK2 sets. The first preview included new armour and shields. In a later preview, many of these elements were removed. Now it appears that we're getting the newer elements. Look at Vladek's Castle! Vladek once again has his tear-drop shield and his dark red armour! Even more interesting is Santis who now has a gold  helmet! It appears that the KK2 minifigs will be two-toned instead of being a single colour (Rascus also appears two-toned, as his helmet seems to be dark green).

Overall, there are some interesting things here.

(And that dump truck looks absolutely ridiculous! The dumper is as big as most pre-molded baseplates! Talk about juniorization to the extreme!)

Later.

The freaky bioncle castle thingy is almost as cool as the old kk2 castle
Its great now because now the minifigs can pawn them, but I think the Duplo dudes are gonna pawn the minifigs afterwards.

David85 wrote:You say I'm harsh because the Viking sets are getting worse and worse, but then you bash other sets? Seems a little hyocritical.

And move on, bley is here, stop whing. Maybe you won't like the Viking sets because they are red-brown.

First, I appreciate that you are entitled to your opinion. If you don't like the Vikings line, that's perfectly fine. I'm just suggesting that the line still has a number of redeeming features. I'm not exactly thrilled by some of the changes made to the Vikings sets either, but I still feel that the line has potential. My coments are in no way a criticism of you.

Second, I'm not bashing anything. I am merely stating some of the things I like or dislike (beyond the inflammatory "This SUCKS"). I'm not all that fond of juniorized elements as they are too specialized, and aren't very practical when building alternate models. Again, this is just my opinion.

Finally, I don't have a use for bley. And its difficult to get 'over' it when 70% of your collection is made up of grey bricks! I appreciate that others don't have this problem, but for me the problem is very real. As such, I have avoided purchasing sets with a large amount of bley. This would include sets such as the new graveyard.

Oh, and I don't have the same problem with new brown because I don't have such a large quantity of it. I don't rely on it as much, and I can easily make a transition to new brown.

Again these are only my opinions. I would ask you to refrain from putting me down for having them.

Thanks.
