50 paid craftsmen for 10 years!! That must cost a fortune.

50 craftsment x $30/hour x 40 hours/week x 56 weeks/year x 10 years = $33.6 million!

But I guess for how much he spends on labor he saves on equipment and materials because the article those all come from on site.

That will be cool when it is finished though. I'm just curious what the final price tag will be for something like that.

It would take more money but less time to build the castle if they used modern contruction techniques to put it together. (while still keeping the building materials authentic)

As a tourist attraction, the castle will eventually bring in enough money to cover the cost of building it.

Though France already has many castles, so its not the best place to build a castle if you want tourists to visit.

A castle like this in the U.S. for instance, would garner a lot more tourists & money because the U.S. has no castles.

Someone needs to build a castle over here!

A series on tv started last night in australia called 'Europe in the middle ages' and they had about half an hour devoted to this project

It was very interesting how they used medieval techniques such as the 'hamster cage' to lift all the heavy stone. Also how with a trained eye you can 'read' a stone and split it in 2 or 3 blows.

I might have to buy the dvd I think.
