Castle Town Part 1 and 2 complete! [LOCKED]

This is a section of a castle town. It isn't done yet; I plan to make at least one more tudor style building, and at least some more landscaping and stuff like that. I need advice on the wall; It looks very dark and evil for the setting. The butcher shop, which is all the way complete, including the interiors, has the first bit of SNOT work I have ever done in it.

Edit/Update: I have now completed all the landscaping, and created the road with a well. Check out the update Here!

It is complete! I only have a few pictures up now, and none of them are close ups, but here it is: The Castle Town Section. I still need a name for the town...

All buildings have interiors. Those will be up probably this weekend, while the exterior pictures will be up tomorrow or the next day.

Big update. Check my post on page 4 for all details. Picture is not a thumbnail. Part 2 is complete! On to part 3. I will make a complete part 2 gallery once I can move it to a good photo taking area, and after I complete some finishing touches on the water.

From what I can see, this will be a great town. The harbor cliffs are nice, and the wall is great. The butcher shop is also great. Strangely, the old brown doors don't look bad in the red brown wall (at least to me). Oh, and the first 'pic' actually links to your keep, I think you meant this pic. And the folder's public.

Its looking good. I really like the butcher shop, very nice. The harbor is good, I wouldn't combine the two greys but that is a matter of personal taste. Keep it up!

Smcginnis, I just changed the link. Thanks for pointing it out! I agree, the brown doors look fine with the reddish brown wall.

Josh-- I was somewhat forced to combine the two greys (lack of pieces). I agree, they don't look to great together, but you really only notice in the flash pictures. In real life, it lookes like a big cliff in one color.

This is very nice. My only suggestion wold be to raise the middle part of the black roof on the butcher's shop.

I really like the way that rock wall looks with the wooden wall perched on top of it... very rugged and quite realistic looking... my second favorite part would be, as others have said, the shop in the corner - that is really great looking - I haven't seen many of shops like this before - laid out in something of a triangle.

You've done an excellent job on this so far. I really like your rock cliff and the wooden wall is well done, and realistic. The butcher's is a very cool idea, and the inclusion of the small garden in the "elbow" in a great little touch.

As far as inprovements the only thing I can really think of is working a bit mroe on the roof of the shop to make it flow a little better, but I don't know if that is possible.

Still an super job so far I can't wait for the completed project!

Why do people build walls? To keep people out.

Hey, I've visited plenty of towns in Europe that have evil looking walls. Once you are inside, you are treated to a wonderful little city full of life.

The walls can and should look evil from the outside as long as the town inside looks pleasant. It is a matter of perspective. Keep the bad out, keep the good in. What you have created so far looks great! Keep up the good work!

I'm working on a large scale lego project, and for elevating the base height (like you are doing with the green bricks inside the walls) I've found it is best to build an efficient structure below FIRST.

I can't find the scan, but some train guys have a nice litte picture of how to build a very solid and peice efficient elevation. It consists of stacks of 2x2 bricks with (4) 2x4 bricks connected one to each corner. This suprisingly makes a very solid surface.

Hopefully someone else with better google-fu will come along and show ya.

I've goofed around with using "junk" peices to get the height I desire but something inside me nags away saying "but... maybe someday you'll NEED that!" Plus I found that it was never as sturdy as I wanted, or as versital. I know money is allways a concern, but it may just be worth it to bite the bullet and buy some red, yellow, or blue 2x2 and 2x4s on bricklink (they are pretty cheap)

If you are refering to those windo pieces, yeah. They are not so versital. They are weak for supports. I used them right there because I was using green 1x6s and 2x4s and I couldn't make the gap between each support very big. Now I am working on the road, and because I am using large dark tan pieces and large green plates, I can use the method you are talking about, and not use so many bricks. Thanks for the suggestion. Tonight I will probably finish the landscaping (At least the ground) and so I will probably update it then.

This is looking really cool.
I like how you made the palisade wall up against the rocky shoreline.
The butcher shop looks great, I like the mottling and the smoke coming out the chimney.

Yes. I am. I just can't decide what the building should be. An inn? A... shop? I can't think of a good building that would fit right there!
