I have just started my Viking Hall MOC, starting with the watch tower. I am most proud of my Viking horn I am trying to stay fairly historicaly accurate - so there won't be any giant, rapid firing ballistas or Mammoth / Dragon horns, I am sorry to say ...
Where do you guys stand on Vikings anyway? I figured as they invaded & occupied most of Britain / Western Europe during the Middleages that they would defiantely be considered "castle" ?
Thanks for ur input, guys! I can't tell you how refreshing it is to be able to share ideas with people who appreciate Lego - especially Castle
This one is defiantely going to have landscaping - it will be the first MOC I am going to attempt it with too. The tower will actually stand alone, apart from the hall on a raised area
I like your wathchtower a lot. The horn is ingenious, too.
I've been working on my own Viking fortress for half a year now. The structure of your tower inspires me to try some new things, so thank you for sharing.
And yes, I consider Vikings a part of castle. I hope they would get rid of the Bionicle dragons and added some opposing human faction, though.

I agree with both of these thoughts!
As for the watchtower I agree with it too, er...it agrees with me...
Yeah, I like it.
The simple-looking framework is a nice touch and if included with a fortress will really add to it. The barrel in the "attic" is a great little LEGO-esque secret, and the horn is super.
I really like the design here. Simple yet very functional and attractive. Your horn is excellent. Nicely done.
As for the Viking line, I think it absolutely belongs under a Castle heading. Not only historically, but there are so many elements that are almost exclusively "castle", that it belongs. As for the giant beasts, I don't know. Personally I really like them (although they can be very "Bionicle" looking), but I would be happier if there were just a couple of sets with monsters and a couple of sets with an opposing faction. Or ideally, they would provide us with another historically-based (and by that I mean realistic) castle faction for the Vikings to attack. That would kill two birds with one stone for me.
Anyway, keep us posted on your MOC as it comes along. It looks great so far.
Excellent. I was always of the opinion that Vikings were just another faction myself
I don't mind the dragons either, I'm a big dragon fan myself. I do think there are too many of them though. I like the idea of having technic siege engines - but TLG have gone to far by making them more of a novelty than anything of historical value.
Maybe they should have either a Celtic or Scottish Highlander faction That would be cool - Lego kilts would be hillarious lol
Sava made a Highlander with a kilt a few months ago - I agree, an official faction using that as an idea would be cool. Perhaps in next years Viking line? I'd buy some of those . . .
And remember: Many have been kilt for calling it a skirt. Don't let it happen to you.
Perhaps I mis-spoke. What I meant to say was that while the dragons/creatures are pretty cool, it owuld be great to get another faction for the vikings to battle (ie incase kids don't have any castle figs).
Perhaps a scottish/hilander type army, or something. Keep it up!
I really like the way you have diagnal thin plates on the sides. I also like the horn idea. You could also use it for a drink container. I think the Vikings did that.

Yeah! I like this watch tower. Makes me think of the Dylan song. Anyway I'm just regurgitating everyone else's compliments. Great horn, love the plates attached at diagonals, simple, looks accurate, I dig the roof. I also like that the ladder is just the right height to reach the tower floor. I'm looking forward to seeing more.
I'd suggest you dust the model next time. Dust on black pieces really stands out in photographs.
