LEGO Car Survey
If LEGO made a collector car set, what type of car should they make? Your thoughts will be passed along directly to LEGO!
A few simple guidelines:
- the car will be for display, which means it will have few functions
- body will be built with System bricks
- the car should be very iconic/well known in Europe and US
- the car should be from the past 30 years

Subaru Wagon and/or BRAT (late 80's early 90's)
I'm sure American Muscle cars would be known in Europe, although perhaps jsut a bit out of the 30 yr range in some cases. ie: '69 Dodge Charger/Challenger/Superbird, '69 Pontiac GTO, the Chevelle, Nova, Mustang, etc.
Land Rover
VW Bug/Bus/Karman Ghia (would be very iconic, but not my first choice)
And to a much lesser extent any Audi, BMW, Lamborghini, Porche, (Ferrari has already be done, eh?)
Hummer Alpha (the original)
I'm assuming this to be a license-based deal agian?

Hey,
I just made this post on LEGOfan (totally screwing up the links in the process since I didn't reallize they used true html rather than BBCode):
I would go for a VW Beetle. It's an instantly recognizable car, and it would have a nice historical note for LEGO as they had set 307 - VW Auto Showroom almost 50 (!) years ago.
There have been many great MOCs of Beetles. Ben Beneke has a great fig scale version:
that he developed with Klaus Dobisch, inspired by versions by Uli Meyer and Bram Lambrecht (see Ben's credits for more).
Eric Hunter (currently a model builder at Legoland California) built his own fig-scale Beetle, also inspired by Uli Meyer's:
Looking around Ben's folder, I see a Miniland scale Beetle from Legoland:
Sean Kenney has another great Miniland scale Beetle:
and here's another one by RalphS:
and one by Bram Lambrecht:
Anyway, as the above show, it's an instantly recognizable car at various LEGO scales, and one of the better known vehicles around. Most of the builders above are well known members of the community. This would be a great opportunity for another set in the MOC line.

1. VW Kharman Ghia (sp?)
2. Porsche 911
3. Rolls Royce
4. Trabant (!)
5. Land Rover
6. Citroen 2CV (or whatever the official name of that quirky Bug clone)
7. Austin Mini (the real one, not the BMW one)
8. Ford Mustang (c. 1966)
9. MGB

Even without the time-travelling part, a DMC-12 would be great. Heck, there's already a great MOC version that could be "un-Futurized" with very little effort.SavaTheAggie wrote:a time traveling delorean comes to mind...
A classic VW Bug or Bus would be a good second choice, as would the Austin Mini or . . . hmm . . . something no-one's mentioned . . . the AMC Gremlin?

The "last 30 years" requirement kind of knocks out most American cars I would consider iconic. VW bug and DeLorean are both good choices (although I don't know how well known the DeLorean is in Europe, I mean I know it's a European car but the only reason I know about it is from Back to the Future. Do they watch Michael J. Fox movies in Europe?) Maybe the Porsche 911?
If we could push the age requirement back to 50 years, I'd say '57 Chevy Bel Air, '59 Cadillac Coupe DeVille, or Steve McQueen's Mustang Fastback from Bullet. I'd actually buy one of those. I might buy a DeLorean model, but only if it came with Marty and Doc Brown minifigs.

The 30 year requirement does limit it a bit. I am going to have to go with the Porsche 911 or the VW Beetle. Both are iconic and both are well known in both Europe and the US.
