The Meaning of 'Jibbly'

Many users seem to be confused by the little series I started oh so long ago, so as a public service, suggested by Athos, this thread is to explain just what a Jibbly thread is.

What is this 'Jibbly'? You can define it thusly:

Jibbly - n. uncomfortable feeling of dread or horror. esp. uncomfortable mental image. Also Jibblies, Jibblified, Jibblerific

You ever see something that you really wanted to un-see? Something that made your skin crawl and you had this uncontrolable urge to shake it out of your head? Like walking in on your grandma naked... You, my friend, have had a Jibbly.

When someone (typically me) finds something on Brickshelf that someone has built out of LEGO that is so odd, creepy or weird that it creates a physiological response (or more precisely the Jibblies), he posts it to the forum with an adequately titled thread.

The point of the Jibbly thread is to have fun, so remember, don't try to be overly critical of the builder's techniques, and try to remember that no one has yet actually built a Jibbly in order to post it as a Jibbly (and thus by saying it someone is now going to do so), so don't shoot the messenger.

I must say that I disagree with you on the "one that started it all". It does not seem to be a jibbly. Thanks for the clarification of the term though.

I have to confess that the fact that we actually have a sticky explaining jibblies is what really gives me the jibblies...

I don't think that there's anything wrong with that... I've been meaning to build/post some jibbly MOCs for some time now.

At first, the jibbly thing was interesting. Then more people started to post stuff that find and it was acceptable to a limit, but nowadays I see more jibblies than well executed MOCs in the threads (I don't mean that jibblies are badly constructed;some are built in quite innovative ways. I just think that we should handle them as MOCs rather than jibblies);which makes me think that jibblies are neither fun nor interesting at this time. Also it became an easy way of earning posts. Just my thoughts on the subject.

I agree with Scnicker - I generally skip over any thread with "jibbly" in the title. I've felt that lately throughout the forum a lot of the posts are unoriginal and have little meaning behind them.

That said, I love your model, Nelson! That's definitely the primary reason I don't like cooking...and the flags always make great forked tongues. A stew that bites back.

I agree as well. I also skip the jibbly threads as it appears that people are calling MOCs jibbly as it's the popular thing to do. Most of these MOCs that are posted I see more as very creative and original than disturbing as the phrase "jibbly" suggests.

Many models labeled as "jibblies" seem to feature interesting construction techniques used to create facial features, so I often find them worth looking at. However, the many similarly-titled threads and "Jibbly, Jibbly!" exclamations do get a bit tiresome.

I back up that declaration with a flexing of muscles and a nasty glare. Very few people, other than Tony, have a decent concept of jibbliness.

Nah, but seriously I think that´s quite a weird statement. Politely asking everyone (including Tony) to cool down a bit on this is probably better. This jibbly-thing is fun.. to a limit.
