Pics of old Ukraine village

Post by Saaz »

I just saw these pics linked on Digg, and thought they're great inspiration for castle builders. But I may find them especially interesting because I've been experimenting with thatched roofs recently - YMMV.

Wow... I'm not sure which is more inspiring (at least for LEGO writing)... the cool cottages/structures, or those scary/imposing skies in the background!

Nice pics, thanks~ :)

That last picture looks like it would be an interesting structure to build.

Freaky...

Am I the only one who finds those pictures actually rather creepy? All that fog, and the dark sky, and the grim landscape, and those dark, shadowy houses. I'd expect to see zombies riding from the ground at night, or seeing wolves somehow stand upright, or dark riders asking about the name Baggins...

Extremely nice photos. The sky does look very menacing, I was waiting for a dragon to fly across the sky and let out some loud awful screech.

The buildings do look nice to build, but I don’t think could truly capture their essence with Lego.

Thanks for sharing the images.

Freaky. I always thought a horde of vikings were going to come pouring out of some shadowy corner with some of that epic opera music playing...

These are great pictures. My Aunt was in the Ukraine a little while back for teaching school, and I do believe she is going back soon...
Back on track. These are great. I particularly like the dark skies, and the tall, old looking roofs.
These are great inspiration!

Or some menacing organ music like Bach's tocata fugue(sp?) in D minor with a pack of wolves or Vampire darting about. It could be a village next to a gothic looking castle all dark and forboding like some Vincent Price or Edgar Allen Poe story.

Those are amazing pictures! I noticed it said that they were processed...Does that mean that they were edited to appear more dark and mysterious?

This is a great little resource. My beloved is from Eastern Europe and I've grown fascinated by that areas history. I have a "Slavic" faction in the Ancient and Medieval timelines and so I plan on building structures based upon actual architecture of the Slavs.

Well, they are clearly edited to look darker... Why? Who knows. Anyway, cool buildings!

That is quite cool. I don't think the fact that it's clearly edited takes something away from the photos. Maybe it was done to enhance it. I liked it. It's spooky. I can't imagine living in those times. I think I'll just get depressed every single day. Hahaha !
