I shall call him... Mini Me

Post Mod Gallery

Here is a mini version of my #805 I built this afternoon. I've been wanting to build a mini-scale train to ride on a small flatbed car for a long time now, but I never really got the gumption to try to build a MOC of my own instead of copying someone else's work. I think I did a pretty ok job.

As always, comments and criticism are welcome.

Very nice job. I can't really tell since the gallery isn't modded, but I see the mini is resting on 2 tiles. Would a light grey ladder have worked as well? Or is it not wide enough?

Very cute! Great part usage here, I imagine in was quite dificult to imitate the shape. I really like the front drive wheels, but I think the funnel is a bit large - maybe a 1x1 cone piece with a round 1x1 plate on top? Well done.

Very good job. You're an excellent train builder, and this latest MOC upholds this.

Hmm...I thought I had commented on this. Anthony, my apologies. I think this mini version is pretty sweet. Are you trying to get away from your sobriquet of "The Dragon Guy"? Because you are defintely flirting with becoming "The Train Guy". :)

By the way, Dunechaser just blogged your trains.

This looks great. The little engine is obviously being delivered to the local ‘model steam recreation society’. I can just visualize the miniature railway system, with an oversized minifig driver sitting on this little engine, while it is pulling the carriages full of little children around the track.

Job well done.

Thank you, everyone, for your comments. I've tried adding a bar for the piston and drive rods for the driving wheels, but nothing I've tried looks right. They're either too big or not in the right place. Maybe someday I'll revisit the idea with a fresh mind.

To be honest, there are so very few MOCs I've built of which I am truly proud. I used to be very proud of my dragons, but for the most part I now look back at them with no small amount of disappointment that I didn't do better. Even Formeathan v2.0 has lost points in my mind over time as I critique him over and over, looking to where I could have done better, and wonder what I was thinking when I made certain decisions.

Right now, my train building has produced some very ripe and sweet fruits, and I'm enjoying them immensely. While I may not be the best train builder out there, I seem to have some modicum of talent in that area. Trains have become a permanent part of my thematic resume'

Perhaps once I am finally through with Ulmaris (very proud of Ulmaris, FYI) and tear it down, I can go back to building other castle MOCs with a fresh imagination and new building techniques, and hopefully produce things of which I will remain proud years later.
