Castle in "tan"?

Postby Brickzone » Wed May 16, 2007 8:43 am

I saw photos of the new Lego "Villa" due for release; there's a brickset article here. Tan bricks are used for the walls, and they give a stone effect.

This got me thinking, would a castle design using this colour look good? Certainly castles (and great houses) with a similar colour of stone are common in real life. I think it would work best for a very formal design of castle, less fantastical than even the new Castle sets, but also less "functional" than the old castle designs. Sure you'd have knights, but perhaps more "life" in the castles than there's been to date; some inhabitants other than king + maiden for example.

Thoughts?

IMO potentially yes. Here's a castle in tan from our own Sir Nelson. :)

The Hogwarts castles are in tan already, but yeah, as far as i'm concerned, the more tan the better.

It might look good...but somehow I don't like really it; having seen this colour scheme in MoCs before, it does look good but it doesn't strike me as 'castley'. As a colour tan seems to lack the grit and strength of grey.

I would really like to see Lego do a deserty middle east theme castle series with tan castles along with camels, tents, arabs, a bazaar, flying carpets and uh crusaders!

I doubt it'll happen; it's way too close to the current political situation for Lego to show Muslims fighting Crusaders.

I'd like to see some camels. Perhaps a non-crusades oriented middle east theme. Maybe Arabian Nights...? Or perhaps Lego, being Danish and all, is a bit reluctant to do anything involving the middle east... Doesn't want to be on the receiving end of a fat'wah...

As already mentioned Hogwarts was built in tan. I think that tan lacks the sobriety of grey but that could work to an advantage in something like a palace or a manor MOC

I build a lot in tan. For a few reasons, first I will never have enough grey or dark grey to use those for a castle, but mostly it is because when I was in England I saw a castle in a yellow-tanish color. I liked it a lot. I have two castles in tan and am currently working on a new one.

This was my first castle. A desert one not to minifig scale but at the time, I didn't have enough tan (even though I had been collecting it for a year).

And this was my second.

My newest one is almost the size of a card table and will be a desert castle, but once again I am running out of tan.

This same type of theme is exactly what I wanted as a kid, and would still love. Of course there wasn't even tan back then, so it would have been hard, but I think tan, deserty castles are great!

All this tan castles look great. I must admit that even though they look good, I am not going to be building any tan castles, any time soon. Simply because I don’t have enough tan pieces. I am still trying to acquire more grey for my next project.

I have to say, that I did Like Jojo's recreation of set 375 in tan, this put a smile on my face.
