Very sad news - Eric Brok has passed away
Eric Brok succumbed to the effects of prostate cancer earlier this week after fighting it for the last year and a half. Eric is a Dutch AFOL who was a pioneer in the hobby. Over ten years ago he started his website, LEGO on my Mind, at a time when the online community was in its very early stages. His creations have inspired builders ever since. Castle fans should definitely check out his castle creations including his Estuary Stronghold. Also, be sure to check out the "Thoughts" section of his site, which have insights on the hobby and building ideas. Recently, Eric has made a huge splash in the community by designing the great new set 10190, Market Street. Here are his thoughts about designing that set, and here is a brief bio of him on lego.com.

Farewell, Eric You were one of the main founders of online AFOLdom and contributed not only to that but also Lego itself. We will remember you.

Before I found the community, I used to spend a lot of time at Eric's site. He was a brilliant builder, a revolutionary thinker, and just an all-around good man.
Farewell, Eric.
Farewell, Eric.

Sigh, yes...very sad. But at least he saw the runaway success of his newest sets, that had to bring him some joy.
I had just stumbled upon his site a few days ago, and I noticed something about him: he responded to every post. Every single one of them had a nice, friendly response that truly seemed appreciative of the time they took to take a look at his site.
I didn't really know him, and barely knew of him, but what I knew was enough to tell me that we lost a truly kind and good individual.
I've been praying for both him, and his family.

I have to confess that I had never heard of him until now, but it's very sad to hear this kind of story. Especially since he seems to have still been quite young.
To read his website and see some of his models was nice - he seems to have been a great pioneer in the AFOL community, and a good person as well.
I'm sad to see this news.

I heard about his last night from John. It is very sad indeed.
However, if you an optomist, you will look at the bright side and look at how cool of a set we have to remember him bye.
Farewell, Eric Brok!

Yes, he has made his mark in AFOLdom and Lego as a company with this set and he will live on through it.Remyth wrote: I heard about his last night from John. It is very sad indeed.

Very sad news indeed.
It's unfortunate, not only is it a death, but also on the eve of the release of his set. It is a bit consoling as well, though. At least we will all remember him for his dedication to our hobby, and as the designer of a fabulous set!
We'll miss you Eric!

He made amazing stuff. Farwell Erik. If only we had more people like you on this Earth. Even I do not know you, you must have built up quite a reputation.
