LEGO stores?

Post by Hob Took »

I am not near any LEGO stores. The closest one is in Colorado. Since I have never been to any of these stores I have some questions I would be greatful for someone to answer, as the LEGO website has almost nothing on them.

The Brick Wall, does it have a good selection? Are the prices similar to Pick A Brick? Is the Brick Wall in all the LEGO stores?

Minifig bins, I have heard people are getting the new wizards and princesses from these. What is the price for a minifig? Do you get any accesories? Is the selection good? Are minifig bins in all the LEGO stores.

Finally do the LEGO stores have a good stock of LEGO sets, and if anyone has been to the LEGO store in Denver, CO, is it good?

Thanks for posting this, I actually need to know the answers to some of the questions you asked. I know that the minifigs cost about $3 USD.

The PAB wall usually has a fairly good selection, but it varies, and depends on what you want. The prices are done by container. a large container I think is about $12. The Brick Wall is in all LEGO stores that I know about.

The price for a fig is $3. You get five peices. Legs, torso, head, hair, and an accessory. The selection is pretty good. There are lots of different types of torsos and things in there.

LEGO stores usually have just about every LEGO set currently being produced. They probably run out sometimes, like all stores, but you can usually find what you want. They also have exclusives and stuff like that.

Hope that helps some!

I was at the one in Bellevue, WA when I was on vacation a couple years ago. They tend to restock pretty quickly. When I was there, they ran out of a certain set. I went back the next day, and they were currently restocking that set.

I have a Lego store less than an hour away, and tend to visit it about once a month.

I don't know if the PAB at my store is typical, but they have in the neighborhood of 50 bins. It's not especially useful if, say, you're building a castle and need a big pile of gray bricks. They may not even have any basic bricks on a given day. But they sometimes get very interesting parts that are nice to grab a handful of.

Sometimes they'll have discounted sets, either one or two with damaged boxes, which are usually something like 20% off, or clearance sets, which might be 50% off. (Sometimes the same clearance sets that are at the online store, sometimes different.)

One of the best things, which I haven't seen anyone else mention, is that they sometimes have just weird stuff you can't get anywhere else. A few months ago they had surplus Factory bags at really good prices. (I think from the old Factory system, where certain collections of parts were pre-bagged.) They also had bags of mosaic plates (dk gray, gray, and lt gray 1x1 plates) really cheap. (I bought the whole stock of those, planning to use them for cobblestone roads some day.)

Others can verify this, but I believe the Pick A Brick wall is made up of elements that have either been accidentally over-produced at the factory, or old stock that needed to be cleared out. It is not rare to find old colors; last time I hit a store I picked up a bunch of 2x3 old brown plate and 1x4 old dark grey bricks. You can also usually find parts in random colors that are less common, or just random stuff that you would never have a lot of just from buying sets. For instance I got half a cup of earth orange 2x10 bricks my last trip - and the great thing is they cost me exactly the same as if I had bought half a cup of 2x10 red bricks since a cup is the same price no matter what you put in it. You can usually fit a good deal of parts in one cup if you're smart about it (always put small parts in first because the bottom of the cup is uneven and they'll fill up the gaps), I think it's a much better value than buying them individually priced online.

Also don't forget to get a stamp card if you buy more than $25, and don't forget to bring it back the next time you go!

Does anyone know which Lego store in California carries the minifig bins?

I do know the San Mateo store has the minifig bin - though when I last went the princesses were cleaned out (some more wizard pieces though no hats).

Speaking of minifig bins, does anyone know if the Lego stores in Cologne and Oberhausen have minifig bins? Both are less than an hour away from here I live, so I'm planning to go to both as soon I get back home on our side of the Atlantic (I only have 3 more days here in USA).
I wanted to go to the one in McLean, VA today because it's close to where I live right now (Washington DC) but I don't think I have time for it because I'm preparing for my return home :(

The Lego Store you are refering to is the Tysons Corner Mall location and to save you a trip they are all out of princess and wizard figures. The wizard they ahve everything except the hat and the princess they only have the dress slope piece and the two sided face left.

And with all the minifigure bins they are limited time thing and will not be restocked.

Alright thanks for clearing that up. Tysons Corner was indeed the one I was going to find time to visit, but now there's no way I can still make it, I'm leaving on a plane tomorrow morning.

Has anyone been to the Denver Lego Store recently? If so, how are the minifig bins? (as far as the castle line)

Also, do they ever have Star Wars figs in these bins??

Thanks

Hey morningstar, I think the best way to find out is just to call and contact the store nearest you. I think thats what I will be doing before I visit one.
