Hello,
I was recently at TRU with my daughter trying to kill time on a rainy Vermont day. As I walked past the Lego section paused. Wow! The new sets look pretty nice--nicer than any I have seen in that past 10 years or so. Castle Legos were my 'thing' growing up. I think that to an extent they served as a gateway for my interest in history and in collecting antique swords. Anyhow, after seeing some nice looking new sets at TRU, I googled 'castle legos' and found Classic-Castle.com. It is a really outstanding site and I have enjoyed reading the weekly set reviews and browsing through some original (and mind-blowing) creations.
My castle legos still reside at my parents' house (darn it!), but hopefully I can pick up a few new sets from TRU in the near future. When it was al assembled, my castle realm was populated by many factions who often cooperated. My castles include King's Castle, King's Mountain Fortress, and Black Knight's Castle. Some of my favorite smaller sets include Forestmen's Camouflaged Outpost (the first set I put together on my own back in 1988), Siege Tower (great portability for long car rides), and Knight's Stronghold (great for expanding the Black Knight's Castle defenses).
I will probably lurk for a while until I actually have some legos in hand.
Best,
Jonathan

What does MOC stand for?
What does one mean when they refer to their "dark age"?
What does AFOL mean?
Thanks,
Jonathan
A "dark age" is the time period that they disliked or simply did not build/play with Lego willingly. (as apposed to just being away from it)
Adult Fan Of Lego
And welcome! Hope you have a good stay, may it be long!

Thank you for clarifying the lingo for me. Now that I am in the know, I can say that I am an aspiring AFOL who anticipates building some of the 2007 Castle sets as well as doing some MOCs. My dark age spanned 1997/98 through 2006.Shadowviking wrote:My Own CreationOdysseus wrote:

Hi again, I compiled some other terminologies that you might run across. Hope this helps!
ABS: acrylonitrile butadiene styrene, what LEGO bricks are made of.
BF: Refers to the Castle theme called Black Falcons or Brickfest.
BL: Bricklink, the unofficial LEGO marketplace where you can buy LEGO from past to present.
Bley: the new colors that were produced by TLC (The LEGO Company), a mix between blue and grey.
Brickset: a LEGO set database that contains info on all sets and includes set reviews.
B-shelf: Brickshelf: the place where you post your LEGO images. Another place used now is Flickr.
BURP: Big Ugly Rock Piece.
Custom: Modified LEGO elements.
DM: Dragon Masters, a LEGO castle theme that ran after the Black Knights.
EF: Exo-force, a 2006 LEGO set theme.
KK: Knights Kingdom, another LEGO theme. Though there are some naming confusion with the original Knights Kingdom (King Leo's) vs the hero-type Knights Kingdom.
MISB: stands for "mint in sealed box"..
MOCpages: Webpage that allows you to display your MOCs and receive feedback.
MSRP: Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price.

Welcome, Jonathan. Always nice to have another AFOL join this awesome site.
Man, I wish it was raining here. It's boring old sunny; and it got up to 100° yesterday. I hate summer weather.

Learning French.
Say it "ESS-MICK-GIN-ISS", with a hard "G", as in "get".
I'm a Pumpkin.

Welcome to CC. I know that you, being a castle fan, will really enjoy your time at the site. I really envy your classic castle collection, not being born yet during the Golden 80s of castle.

I did not realize how lucky I was until I started lurking here and reading about people's thoughts on the older sets. There are a few classic sets I'd like to add to my collection, including, of course, the classic Black Falcon's Fortress. Next time I visit my parents I'll have to reassemble my sets on my play board (an old Brio train board that was annexed by the castle factions).Spongey wrote:Welcome to CC. Good to have you here. Don't feel pressured to lurk, just jump right in.
Some lesser used acronyms:
DWTPIN! (Dude, where's that piece I need?)
HOITT? (How old is this thread?)
WCII30&SPWL? (Who cares if I'm 30 and still playing with LEGO?)
Actually, nobody uses these acronyms, but I feel that they should.
