official backed-up gallery thread
Hey all,
I'm sure everyone is frantically backing up favorite galleries, but we should be a little systematic about it. I'd hate to see a hundred back-ups of Hachi's folder but no backups of Obi-Juan-Kenobi's, just to pick two great castle builders. Add to this thread the names of any galleries you've backed up. Even if someone else has already backed up that gallery, let us know. The format I propose is this:
1. Gallery name (back-up #1), (back-up #2), etc
2. Gallery 2 (back-up #1)
etc.
If you have your own stuff backed up, add (self) as the backer-upper. We'll keep updating the list so we know what galleries are safe and identify any key builders who are missing, focusing on castle builders of course, but include anyone you back up.

The list so far, in alphabetical order. BTW, duplicates are a good thing, so don't hesitate to download a gallery even if it's already on this list.

Excellent work. The same thing is happening over at classic-space. Maybe we can coordinate an upload location later?

Excellent idea indeed. I'm busy working on some other projects, but I do plan on participating once I get those underway.Bohman wrote:Excellent work. The same thing is happening over at classic-space. Maybe we can coordinate an upload location later?
Minifig (of pootling and Flickr) had an interesting suggestion. For those of us with Flickr accounts, what about creating a Brickshelf group to centralize uploads of migrated and backed up images?

I'll be putting all the files I downloaded onto CD's so that way if the computer wonks out I'll still have 'em. Once we have a secure spot I can then upload them again. (the ones needed that is)
oh yeah I also found as many Henry trips as possible and downloaded those. I didn't get the complete folders, only the ones with Henry's trips.

Hey Freak,
Thanks for grabbing the Henry trips. I kept meaning to make a page linking to those galleries. After the whole download rush is over, remind me to talk to you about putting something together.
Andrew,
I've gone through and saved all images formerly posted on VB and MB, with the intent of at some point after this shakes out of putting up a gallery of "rescued pics" that I can link to. Maybe you guys, and all bloggers, should consider the same. Of course, when I do get that up, it'll be a huge pain in the neck, since I'll have to edit literally hundreds of posts to change links. I just always thought of blogs as a history of great building, so it kills me to have them be all dead links.
All,
Once this all shakes out, we'll come to some consensus (also with those on Classic-Space and other sites) as to where to re-upload rescued galleries. Original gallery owners should have some sort of veto power, but I have no idea how we'll let them know if they're somehow disconnected from our corner of the community.
Jojo,
Did you back up yourself? You're kind of all over the web (your site, Brickshelf, MyImages).
I'll get back to downloading galleries when I'm at home (i.e. at a high speed connection).
Bruce
