Brickshelf will not be shutting down!

Post by LEGO_KNIGHT »

Saw this at Brickshelf!!!!

Notice: Brickshelf will not be shutting down!
We will be offering "featured" accounts for $5/month shortly.

We have received hundreds of supportive emails in the past few days including many who said they would like to contribute financially but did not know how. This has had us rethink the practicality of charging for enhanced features. We plan to do this without reducing current functionality for free users. Thank you for your enormous show of support.

IMPORTANT: do NOT try to download the entire site, it causes major problems, slows things down for normal users and you will be permanently blocked.

Thanks for the post. I wonder how far in advanced you can pay. This is great news

This is truly good news. I'm moving this to General.

You've just got to love happy endings. I think I will be upgrading to the $5/month account.

Well, that's good news. Of course $5 per month does seem quite steep. I wonder how many sympathetic fans will actually pony up? Of course, I'm still glad that I backed up a number of files as this served as a good reminder that nothing in life is guaranteed (even Brickshelf).

I'll be waiting to see what happens.

Later.

And so the great age of 'paying for everything' begins.... j/k.

This is WONDERFUL!

Although, flickr pro is actually cheaper now.

It does say that regular free service will continue as it always has. If you pay, you will just get better services.

Yeah, I know. It's just, I've been browsing BZP all day, where a premier account (which is, like, a million times better) cost money.... So I'm just in that sort of mood. This is still great though.

I might do this.

Wait... you have to pay now? Or is that just for an "upgraded" version? If you have to pay for the regular version, is there any way to delete your account?

But still, great news! Yayz!

EDIT: Okay, if I understand it right, I was right. I'd still like some clarification, though, please.

I would definitely like to hear more about the improved options for the monthly fee. Sixty dollars a year does seem high. If fans are willing to pay this and we can still keep brickshelf around, that will be great. Still, I would rather see twice as many fans sign up for the advanced service and cut the fee in half.

This sounds very nice. Not sure if I'll make the payments though... It will depend on what you get, but having a pro account at Flickr already, I'll most likely stay with a free account.

Wow, great news :) But then $60 a year? That's a bit pricey ... I hope this doesn't endanger BS all over again. The upgraded features would want to be twice as good as Flickr to justify the cost.... I would be more that happy to pay half that though.

I'm pretty sure you meant $60 a year...

Yeah, it seems to be a bit pricey. I don't think that it will endanger it, though, because free accounts are still available.
