How about keeping Brickshelf up and running?

Does that mean anything? Where are all the people promising financial support if it would keep Brickshelf running?

If the site shuts down again, you wont have paid $60. That's why it is $5 a month. It is suts down, you have only paid for what you got so far. Also, don't think of it as 60 a year. Think of it as 60 for 13 years.

First I'm very grateful that he decided to keep it running, as I am grateful he did this in the first place. How many of us would just voluntarily create a site that does as much as Brickshelf does and keep paying for it?

Money runs the world. It is the decision maker in many many real life issues. As many said the money involved with both flickr and Brickshelf now is making decisions for us too. In my case, I am saving money for the awesome LEGO sets that have appeared this year and many other very important things. Money is a personal thing. It causes so many arguments and problems.

So rather than deciding that the cost is large, could we please just be grateful and keep this thread positive?

That's a good point. Many were so upset that Brickshelf was going down - now lets just be thankful that it's not! After all, while some can't afford $60/year, many can. In fact, for anyone working eight-hour days at only $9.00/hour, $60/year isn't even a full day's work!

But for those of us who are already saving for college, a home of their own, girlfriends, etc. £30 (or more, depending how long I use the site) seems a bit disconcerting. I'd much rather just pay one big sum (£20, let's say), like BZPower's Premier Member system, than continual payments constantly eating away at my money.

Does this mean we have to pay to be a brickshelf user now?

No. It says on Brickshelf that free user account will remain the same.

We are all saving for one thing or the other. If you want my list that includes more schooling, LEGO expensive sets, a visit to see my best friend, a laptop, new shelves for my collection, and the list goes on and on. But my point was money is personal. Whether you choose to spend it on an image hosting site or saving it for any of the things you want, is your choice. Kevin has the right to charge whatever he sees fit for his site. If you don't want to pay it, then don't.

But being grateful for Brickshelf being still in existed is important. People don't like doing nice things for people who whine, complain and find fault with you and your choices.

Of course I want to pay for it. I would gladly return some of the goodness Kevin has done for us. What I'm troubled about is the payment type - I'd rather just pay a single big sum than continuous payments.

Very true. I don't know that I could put it better than that.

I actually think that small monthly amounts is better than one large sum. Whether you pay $5 a month or $60 a year, it's still the same amount. Also, if you pay a yearly sum, than you have to use the service for the entire year. With monthly amounts, you can decide that it is just to expensive after a few months and only have lost $10 or $20 instead of $60.

I see your point but I think you're mistaking me - I don't mean a payment every year, I mean a large payment at the start to cover all the potential time you use your account.

Nice to know brickshelf will be sticking around!
I'd like to get a "featured" account but the idea of a montly fee is a big turn off.
I'd rather pay a yearly fee personally and $60 a year is a tad bit high compared to other pay sites like Flickr.

I'm glad brickshelf is back up though but I'm still keeping a close eye on brickimage.net and mocshow.com, to see if they become popular.

I'm glad to see that Brickshelf is still going to survive, at least for the time being. As a member who doesn't use Brickshelf too much (for now...), I'm glad that a free account is still possible. This is not to say that I don't want to do all I can to support the site, and I'm definitely going to cut down on my picture sizes and number of pics in order to keep my "LEGOlogical footprint" down.
