will lego produce romans?

Though the Crystal Skull movie may be about Atlantis, so we might get some satisfaction there...

I read a story about some extra who leaked details and got in a lot of trouble, and it sounded like it is set in South American jungles (or at least those scenes featuring that extra are).

[quote="Tower of Iron WillI'm one of the few who would not want a Roman line as most of the other factions are of a later time period (midieval based). It just looks funny when one nation has its knights in full plate armor standing next to a "Roman" themed nation with the knights looking like they are going to a beach party.
[/quote]

now that isnt funny. The plate armour, was after the lorica segmentata wich I identify as plate armour too. If its 30° celsius, lets see how lang you'll fight with your plate armour in the sun. The Romans were adjusted to where they were. They wore trousers, long sleeves, etc. if it was colder.

That is my point. 1) Roman armor is for a mediterranean climate. If thats where your factions live, great! Now you have fitting armor for the climate. Of course knights are not going to use plate armor if its hot. 2) Most castle factions (perhaps in my opinion) have been associated with the dark-ages or Midieval period of mid to upper Europe. Now, looking at history of that time after the Roman empire fell apart Northern Europe stopped for the most part using Roman armor. If I place my factions in the Northern European climate in the 800-1200 time period why whould I need armor from a warmer climate? I am not saying that Roman armor is less effective than midieval period armor it just looks odd. And yes, Roman armor does look comical to me, especially the broom helmets. (see Marvin the Martian ala Warner Bros cartoons)

I didnt say it had to be part of the castle line, but a line itself.

Ninja armor was for japan, and most of us liked the ninja theme, so I do not really get the geographical argument?

I cannot side with tower on this one i'm afraid.

I'd go broke over a roman line! And lets not even get into the awesome sub theme factions you could have inspiration for.

I just try to keep my european factions/nations separate from, say, my oriental factions/nations, or my Indian/Arabic factions. It just makes the story telling easier(for me, in my opinion). Plus it lessens the "evil funny looking foreigner" complex that some nations have. I get sick of governments blaming all their problems on some other "boogey-man" nation. But this is deviating from the original post topic. I personally doubt the LEGO will "do" a Roman line anytime soon whether or not I would want one by that time.

1:Alexander the Great went all the way to India

2:The Romans went all the way to China

3:The Huns went all the way to Roman territory.

Hmm... Crystal Skull, Atlantis...

Just add some flying Pyramid-shaped (tetrahedral) ships, minifigs with glowing eyes, and we've got a StarGate theme. :D

It got noticed, but perhaps not by the folks you wanted to take notice. We are coming out with a bunch of Roman items in a few months.

That is good news indeed... actually, in my experience, the best way for LEGO to get the hint that something is a good idea for them to do is by letting them see you amazing customizers do it first and then watch us all scramble to buy it! :D

I've thought a lot about romans in castle recently, and although I don't think they fit with it exactly, I do think that if they are a kingdom in a more warm area (could be tropical or not), they would indeed work very well with all of the "traditional" western castle stuff we have... well, with the possible exception of KK2 (sorry... I had to get a knock into KK2 for old times sake :P)

Interesting that you say that, because if Lego did seriously produce Romans then I expect they'd use the KK2 rectangular shield for the large legionary shields; like this.

Ha! Good point! You're right! (Cool MOC by the way - that was one of my favorite parts in the movie)
