Red Samurai outpost
So, I have these red Darth Vader helmets that I really like but what do you do with them? I figured since Vader's helmet design was based on a samurai type design in the first place, I'd use it for that. Everything else is in the scene just to compliment the samurai.
This is a fantasy MOC that incorporates castle and Asian styles. No relation to any real place. I'm trying to save some cash so I figured I'd try something without making any Bricklink orders.

Bridge.
A red samurai.
SNOT windows.
A couple carrot peddlers, obviously from out of town .
A guy with his pig.
...and your standard pesky goblins.

Wow, some great work here Rocko.
My favorite technique included in this moc would be the use of both red AND brown slopes for your roofs. It gives the roof a very textured look from afar. The bridge is really nice looking and the guy on the raft is cool.
Quality Craftsmanship.

Some great building here - man - you are busy!
So much to like about this! I really like that bridge - great use of basic pieces to make a very cool & realistic looking bridge. That gold also looks very good (and Asian) with the red, and the flags from the fire ship are great!
I think I'm starting to like the Vader helmet more and more for samurai, although I'm not 100% sold on that yet - I assume you painted it red? Great paint job, if that's the case - I can't see any signs of painting.
The landscaping is great too - I really like the way the grass goes down into sand and then the river - it all looks really natural. And I've always preferred "smooth" water. The pig is a great extra touch, as are the carrot sellers and the rat.
So much to like here - I saved a lot of pics to my HD for reference.
Of course, the goblins are the cherry on the cake - heh heh heh

Great work here, Rock. My favourite aspects are the landscaping & the wall details. The bridge is also nice, but a little flimsy looking. My only real critisism is the presence of those medieval peasants hauling their carrots accross the scene - those guys are a little far from home

Wow Rocko! You've really been busy lately, and have had some excellent MOCs!
There's so much here you should be proud of. The SNOT water (we really should figure out another way to say that) the SNOT sand, the tower itself, the 'ornate' roof peaks, the door, the arcitecture of the walls, and yes, even the use of the red vader helms!
I like the oriental feel of the whole thing, but that it's a fictional 'culture' if you will.
Keep it up (or don't so some of us have a shot at CCCV... )

Well, there seems to many that think the bridge is the jewel in the crown, and you can add me to the list.
In addition, I really like how you used the snot technique for the water and the slopes for the river banks.
Realizing that everything in the creation was to create a scene for the 'helmets', I have to admit that they are my least favourite component. However, opinions are like butt-holes - everyone has one.
Beautiful job.

Excellent work. Everything looks very neatly put together. The larger tower doesn't really strike me as Asian but the rest of it is top notch. Are the red vader helms a custom or a rare piece off BS?

This is amazing. I love your landscaping, and that bridge is super cool. The buildings have nice textures with the embellishments on the windows, but the most striking part to me is the foliage. I agree with LORD DOOM about the roof -- it gives an interesting aspect to an otherwise boring piece. I would have to say the worst thing is the Vader helmet. It doesn't fit well with the samurai thing, but I love the whole piece overall.
I agree with the above statement.

Castle and Asian style?
Umm... you might wanna research some photos of Chinese fortresses and Japanese Castles.
Nice landscaping though.

This is my burning question as well... because if so, you've done a great job and I want to copy your method!Shoes wrote:wait how did you get red vader helmets... Did you *gasps* paint them?!
I've got a pile of the heads lying around here and no idea what to do with them~
