Bionicastle

Postby JPinoy » Wed Nov 19, 2003 2:03 pm

Just wondering which term sounds better?
People here call it Castleonical, but I tend to call it Bionicastle when discussing about the topic.

I see more of a connection to Galidor than Bionicle.

I call them Galidor Knights because I've decided these ARE NOT CASTLE and as far as I'm concerned, will never be considered as such.

Galiknights, or Knightidor.. i dunno

I saw "Castle-dor" on Lugnet and thought that one sounded pretty good.

Q. What to do with these sets?
A. Chuck 'em out the castle-dor.

I would lend my voice here. I believe that we would all agree that this new line does not fall under the title "Castle" -- that term being defined as the mini-fig scale building system first introduced with the Yellow Castle and last seen manifested in Knights Kingdom (this includes Ninja but not Harry Potter).

Confusingly this new line is also labeled "Knights Kingdom", probably in a not so subtle attempt by Lego to link these sets with "Castle".

Given that these new sets are not compatible with "Castle" (from a build/play perspective), and given that Galidor is a defunct line (except now as a continued building system), and given that these sets are being promoted more as a play system (with pre-packaged story-line a la Bionicle) rather than a building system, I would suggest the following label:

"Battle Knights"

This is a value-neutral term (hey, somebody is going to like it, just not us, so why needlessly bash someone else's preference) that embodies what Lego is promoting, while at the same time keeping a distance from the traditional "Castle" line that we all love and promote.

My two cents.

Well said, Alan.

I, for one, dislike the pre-packaged story. With Classic LEGO Castle, you could name your knights, you could have them do whatever you wanted, you could decide even who was the good army, and who was the bad, and which of these was the protagonist, and which was the antagonist. Now, with these new knight-ish sets(they're better than Galidor in that they have at least 42 pieces, Galidor had like eight to each figure), they're just telling you what to do. I am one of the few 14-year-old LEGO enthusiasts who prefers the old, imaginative way. I think LEGO is spending too much time on their story and not letting us "write"(actually, sometimes I do write stories based on my LEGO play, and they're not half bad, either) our own. Also, LEGO is giving too much energy to action figures, and not enough to real castle!

I think these new sets more closely resemble Bionicle than Galidor. They have more pieces, they come with a storyline, and they're color-related(like red, green, etc). But crapola is good to me!!
