I think first there needs to be a little clarification on the "customs" part (as I am in charge of the customs exchange). If you say "yes", then it means you are making a custom fig to exchange, and will be getting one in return. It doesn't mean that you might make a pure fig and yet receive a custom. They are separate exchanges. You can participate in both, by providing one of each type of fig. So, I think some of you may wish to clarify your response to that portion.

As for me;

A custom means it either has altered lego pieces or includes non-lego elements. Examples are custom cloth pieces, painting, sculpting, gluing, decals, custom-cast pieces, anything really that isn't pure lego. Check the castle customs sub-forum for some ideas.

I honestly don't understand the "USA only" option. Post office will ship a fig anywhere.

A few things are in play here:
- non-US postage is higher (some people are cost-conscious)
- depending on how a fig is packed, customs declarations are necessary
- some participants are minors, and their parents may have restrictions/reservations about being involved in international activity (see previous reasons)

I offer these without comment as to whether they are "right" or "wrong" (a discussion best left to PMs) -- they simply reflect the differing circumstances within which some of our members operate.

I always enjoy the international aspect of something like this, but that's just me. Your mileage may vary. :wink:

I think this sounds like a great idea. When I was lurking the past few years, I kindof wanted to do this. Now I have the chance.

Christmas Exchange

Post by Baites »

After checking the timelines, I realized I posted too soon. I'll be out of country and away from my computer from 10-Dec to the 17-Dec and in the next week, I'm moving, so I'm not sure if I'll have my computer ready in time (the wife will want to set up the rest of the house first, then Christmas decorations).

So it would be very unfair to the person I'm partnered with if I'm offline for a few weeks, right in the middle of the exchange. I'm new to the site, so I have no feedback and I don't want to start my first Christmas exchange on a bad note since I would like to make it a yearly affair.

Therefore, I'm going to have to pull out. But I'll definitely be ready next year.
