Analyzing 7036 Dwarves' Mine
this may be a possibility since i've noticed European and American LEGO companies due differ in alot of things and product sales.architect wrote:The Dwarf Mine set will be sold in Europe next year. We certainly can tell LEGO that fans in NA would like another production run of this set.

Oh please be released in Australia!
On that note, can anyone tell me why TLG don't release sets worldwide? Why release the Mine *only* in USA and Europe? Why country specific sets like Avatar?
Got me baffled - other markets may not be as big, but it's not like the bricks spoil in transit or anything... I'm sure they have valid business reasons, I just can't think of any myself...

Retailers like exclusive sets because they drive additional traffic to their store. This is why retailers in certain countries have "exclusive sets". They really have a monopoly on selling that set or line in a country. This is why the Dwarf Mine is only at Target stores in the US and why the entire Castle line is only sold at one retailer in the UK.nikink wrote:Oh please be released in Australia!

Ideally LEGO would release every set in every market. I doubt that they currently have the production capacity to release all sets in their current markets. For licensed lines like Avatar, SpongeBob, Batman, etc worldwide licenses would likely be needed to sell sets everywhere.
The simple solution is to cut down the huge number of lines that is currently in production. This would require fewer licenses for LEGO and allow for additional sets in core themes like Castle, City, and Space.

Actually, only three Castle sets are exclusive to Argos in the UK and Ireland (King's Castle Siege, Skeleton Tower and Skeleton Prisoner Carriage). However, afaik, the others aren't sold at any retailers in UK and Ireland, although available from S@H.architect wrote:This is why the Dwarf Mine is only at Target stores in the US and why the entire Castle line is only sold at one retailer in the UK.

You are correct that exclusive sets will also be available directly from LEGO Shop at Home and LEGO Brand Stores.Brickzone wrote:Actually, only three Castle sets are exclusive to Argos in the UK and Ireland (King's Castle Siege, Skeleton Tower and Skeleton Prisoner Carriage). Exclusive = elusive
I bought one a soon as they became available on S@H, which was mid October. Sold out by end of November. 6 weeks is a very short time. I am glad I did not hesitate.
Brginning of November my wife went to southern Manitoba to visit her sister. I sent her on a cross border run (Target in North Dakota)and have 2 more 7036's for me and 1 for my son that are hidden in a closet until Christmas.
The Hoth Base set is also gone, but was available longer. With the MRSP for us Canadians I passed on it. I think that will be the case more and more in the future unless there is a change.
I hope for all your sakes, those of you who do not have a copy, are allowed to get this set in your respective countries. It is a great set with high play value and fantastic figs. 2008 Castle could be even more popular than 2007.

sadly financial constraints have prevented me from getting this set as of yet

as it goes i need to come up with a couple of good entries for Trade and Industry portion of the CCCV contest so i can hopefully win that prize
but sadly Competition looks pretty stiff for that subject

hey now! as far as the exclusivity of this set goes. I believe it was just meant to be a Target exclusive in the US for this last part of the year and then it show up in the UK in January. It will pop up everywhere in February and be part of the regular assortment from there.

I'd heard April mentioned before by someone. But this kind of release date would be awesome.speaknspell wrote:...show up in the UK in January.

In 2006 Lego Direct had most of the 2007 January sets already available just before Christmas. If we're getting the Indiana sets at the same time as the US, I guess i'd better tell my wallet to just go into hiding now.
