CCCV Contest Thoughts

Post by Spongey »

Hello

Inspired by Bruce's annual contest thoughts, I thought that it would be nice to have a thread for the general members to discuss their thoughts on the CCCV. Members can pick their winners, favourites, or just talk about the entries overall.
If this breaks some sort of pre-judging protocol, than an admin can feel free to lock this thread.

I think tbaixinho had a creation for the misc catagory that wins it all. As for the fortification, I think Kelderic and DNL both submitted formidable MOC's which are good. However, if I had to choose from the two, I would choose DNL because of his added detail. (Just my opinion Kelderic, I loved your entry though.)

Well then, let me just say that this contest was such a frenzy of talent, I wish everybody could win a prize because everybody who entered CCCV deserves one. There was seriously A LOT of incredible material brought to the table by the entire community and I was totally impressed from the first few MOC's that started being entered down to the final few that squeezed in at the last minute.

It was an honor just being a part of it.

Can't wait to do it all again next year. :D

For me it is the first time I enter this contest and I knew the competition was going to be tough, but I didn't expected so many and great mocs. I think that the jury will have a very difficult task.
I love so many entries that I can't choose one right now.

I haven't entered the CCC since the first year, but I finally got a couple entries posted this year. I really like the categories this year. They leave many possibilities open. There are so many good entries this year; some of the best I've seen. Here are some of my favorites:

Fortifying the Pass by Kelderic for Fortifications

The King's Burguer Factory by Rupi for Trade and Industry

and Throejh's Farm by Daniel / DNL for Medieval Farm

Nice job everyone!

Hmm, I think that we should let the judges decide. Perhaps you should tighten up and have everyone say why they like the MOC they chose, and specific techniques, etc. Speculating on the wins and just saying "he's going to win" may hurt some feelings.

Besides
If you searching BS, there are a lot of CCCV MOCs had not been posted here yet.
Some of them are really amazing too.

So, I also think that we should let the judges decide.

I hope no one took it that I was trying to predict the winners of these categories; only the judges can say who wins. They were just a few MOCs that I really admired, and here's why:

Fortifying the Pass really captures the sense that something is being built, that action is taking place. I like the progression from picture to picture, and I can really feel that the pass is now protected where once it was open and prone to danger.

The King's Burguer Factory is full of many wonderful details, mixed with both humor and horror at the same time. I love the guy with the hand cut off and the horse trailing blood and rearing back not wanting to be put in line for the grinder. Nice use of the skeleton horses, and the blood trail is a great touch without overdoing it.

Throejh's Farm has nicely sculpted landscape, something I need to work more on in my own MOCs. I love the use of the green hair for cabbage/lettuce, and the cow is a very nice design. Good overall sense of many things planted in such a small space. Nice log pile and chopping block.

well, I didn't enter last year, but thank god for this contest to let me do something useful in christmas brake! :D

I had the idea of the bridge surface some months, but thanks to CCCV I finally got around intergrating it into a full bridge. The historical event category is also a very good choice of category.

There are A LOT of amazing entries entered, I sure wouldn't like to be the judges... I wish everyone good luck and hope you all enjoyed and learned from this contest.

The judges will decide, but I think we should be able to express our opinions on what MOC's we should think win. Its not like the admins have to take into account our opinion. After all, it is my humble opinion. And I am sure a lot of us would agree. This is only a thoughts thread, so I think its ok.

I would like to thank all of you for the exceptional contest. I found the CCCV categories to be very intriguing, and the competition was very engaging. I really like how this site can be competitive without being divisive. Seeing differing perspectives on similar subject matter is very eye-opening, and really demonstrates the flexibility of the Lego brick. I hope that the new year finds you more inspired than ever, and keep on building. Thanks.

I think it is unfortunate that so many people are so reluctant to comment on what must be the best year of entries yet. There were so many fantastic works this year, particularly when you consider that this is the second major contest that CC has held. Despite that, there has never been such a wide variety of amazing work entered into a single contest. I think it is only right to congratulate all the people who took the time to compete in what looks to be one of the most competitive contests yet!

Between CCV and the summer's LEGO Castle Contest, this is probably one of the most incredible years of LEGO building I've had the opportunity to witness. I shudder to think about what 2008 could bring! If anything, I hope to see some more MOCs from our good administrators and some other members who haven't displayed much recently. Given this year's incredible MOCs, 2008 will need anyone and everyone building something fierce if we are to top the amazing efforts of 2007.

Personally, I feel I can safely say that I have seen as strong a showing from castle fans as I have from any other theme. Quite a feat! Let's take it to the next level in 2008.

This contest gets better every year! I saved many of your contest entry pics on my computer for future reference. There were some really good building techniques I noticed and just good inspirational work all around.
Some of my favorite entries included:

-Miller's Nightmare by Lolas
-Tower of Brothers by V1
-WinterFell by tbaixinho
-Wizard Tricks by MrTS
-Harbour by Lomero
-Apothecary by DARKspawn
-Gold Mine by Stone Goblin
-Corner House by Piglet
-Fortified City by BaronSat
-Hrothingas by DNL
-Unlucky Queen by Iskra
-Rivus Altus by Gork
-The Last Journey by hippotam
...Honestly, theres way too many great entries to even list here.

I am thoroughly impressed and I would like to thank all the builders for providing us with plenty of inspirational mocs to look at and steal ideas from. You are all very talented builders! I would like to thank all the Admins as well, for this contest would not even exist without them donating their time and work to judge the insane amount of entries.
Magnificent work everyone!

Only 10 months till the next CCC begins!

I'm going to echo Blueandwhite's thoughts that this was a great year for the contest. After viewing the entries page, I was blown away by all the great creations. It was awesome to have new builders that weren't around for the last contests to participate, like AlienCat, LORD DOOM, and Elephant Knight just to name a few. I also really liked the creations by Stone Goblin, Kelderic, Maedhros, DARKspawn (surprise) :o , Athos, Giorgio Chronas, and RichardAM, .......ok, I might as well name everyone that entered, but it was a real pleasure seeing all the entries. Did Rebel Rock enter, or did I just miss something?
