Sunday Trip to the Tower ruin

Post by TrishoHara »

Hi,
after a long silence I recently started building again.
The parts of the 7094 Castle which I got to christmas inspired me to make this MOC.
I call it Sunday Trip to the Tower ruin.
Pictures at Brickshelf.

Please note: maybe some of the minifigs are from Star Wars, but in this MOC they shall be just some random people who enjoy a day out. I don't have any other figs (except the knights from 7094), but didn't want to show the little scene completely empty.

Constructive criticism is very welcome.

I was originally going to write some negatives about the landscaping, but then I realized I was looking at some of your WIP photos. The finished product is still a bit rough, but overall it works well.

I really like your theme, pushing "castle" into the modern day. It reminds me of similar "Sunday strolls" that I've taken through the years. Well done.

PS I'm curious about the two at the top, who we only ever see from the back. One person is 100% fleshie, which suggest that he/she/it is... um... er... naked!

thank you. do you have any suggestions how I could do it less rough?
And sorry for the confusing with the WIP photos.

er...no, the one is a child looking through binoculars and the other one is his dad, sitting at the bench. They have tan torsos, so it might look a little bit too bright. http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/carry ... wer_10.jpg

I like the over-all theme of this MOC, as if the modern people could be completely unaware of the battles won and lost, heros made and fortunes lost in this castle's past. If feasable it would be nice to see the castle in its heyday with proud knights manning the battlements with banners waving in the wind. A "before" to go with the current "after."

What follows are mere personal-preference quibbles, not "oh, that's plain awful" complaints.

This one is an example of bricks/plates not securely clicked together -- it just seems sloppy.

This one seems to have a lot of gaps and overhangs. Maybe filling in some of the gaps, and/or using some inverse slopes to smooth the transition.

As I said, mostly just quibbles. The overall MOC is still very nice, and more interesting than I'd probably come up with (as if I'd ever come up with this idea).

I missed that photo. I figured it would be something like.

This would be a fun comparison to see.
