high-res pics of KK2 figs (both versions)

Post by mfuss903 »

Legoland CA has 2 of the new minifig KK sets out - the large castle (#8781 - Castle Of Morcia and #8777 - Vladek Encounter pic -- http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=768418). And they also have all 5 of the large KK2 figs.

I have put BIG pictures of all the figs, large and small as wellas other parts (armor, horses, etc) up on brickshelf, you can check it out if you like.

http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=84031

A note about the castle, I am not sure if this has been gone over here (my first post here) but the castle is a 2-in-1 castle. The color theme swithces to blue to red with only a few twists. The colored parts are set up on turntables that allow for easy, fast switching.

Lots of good pars in the castle set - lots of big slopes and other nice parts. Oh, and the 'blue' in this set is not 'blue' it is a blue-violet, a new color that looks nice on this set.

The larger figs are much nicer than I was expecting. Lego has learned from Galidor and took that info as well as the Bionicle basics and made a nice, solid figure made up of bricks (for the most part). Even if you do not like the figs there is some nice parts in there that would be worth your time.

I like these guys (both large and small) and the kids love the larger figures - and they do NOT fall apart like Galidor did, and they are more 'solid' than Bionicle. I can see why they may not be well liked by some, but no matter what not everybody is going to go crazy about something that comes out.

Enjoy!

Welcome to Classic-Castle!

Thanks for these pics, they answer some questions I had since the toyfair pics. I am very impressed and rather jealous of your camera. I do have a few questions for you, though:

The big fig shields are flexible cardboard-ish, can you confirm or deny that the minifig shields are of the same material?

What do the back of the minifig shields look like, what does the minifig hold on to? Can you post a pic?

Do the knight's have torso decals, or are their torsos blank? Could you post some pics if they have a torso design?

How well do the horse helmets stay on the horses?

Thanks again!

Hey thanks!

Yes, the shields for the big figs are that paper/plastic material. I will try to get a pic of the part that holds it on when the sun is up, but for now I will try to describe it - its like a small shield with a open stud on the front. The Back has a technic axle that is angled and goes into the wrist of the large fig. You connect the clear radar-dish to it and that holds the shield on.

And yes, the minifig shields are plastic - nice and solid.

I took a pic of the back and uploaded it here:
[urlhttp://www.landofbricks.com/temp/minifig_shield_back.jpg[/url]. I will get a better pic of it and upload it in the BS folder later once this dies down a bit to avoid the 'folder not public' thing.
SavaTheAggie wrote:Do the knight's have torso decals, or are their torsos blank? Could you post some pics if they have a torso design?
I am very proud to say there is not a single sticker in the sets I got. The minifigs that have the armor have plain torsos. The only decorated torsos on the figs I have are the ones you can see - the King and the Shadow Knight. All of the plain torsos are the same color of the fig.

I must admit - I have never put a helmet on a horse before, so I have nothing to compare it to, but IMHO it was on there good, we did not have any problems with it falling off.

One thing I forgot to mention, and am not sure if it is known or not - the minifigs wear regular helmets:

And the fancy face shields are visors:
(example)

But they do attach VERY well for something as large as they are.

I don't know whether to be pleased that I don't have to Brasso off bad designs, or annoyed that they didn't put something useful on the torsos. I am disappointed in the end by the lack of imagination (or cost cutting) on Lego's part.

And to forestall the question I'm sure someone will ask: no, Downtown Disney Lego store does not have the sets in. Late June early July. Yes, they know Legoland has the sets - the Lego stores have different distribution and shipping (and the guy answering the phone noted that they were on the west coast, so that means us lefties get an additional delay). I didn't check with the Glendale store, but his indication was the Lego stores in general.

Thanks mark for posting the fig heads. They were my primary concern.

I was able to see the tall Vladek figure at PDX and to be honest, he seemed pretty cool. The arm pieces seem to be made for mech builders, etc. Indeed, most of him seemed aimed towards scifi rather than medieval.

With the minifigs it is the same way. Those swords totally look like laser swords from 1950's era scifi.

I like the printing on the armor as it looks very interesting/decorative. Personally, I know Tony is gonna use them for something cool in his story - can't wait to see what they turn in to.

All in all, these seem okay. Of course, they'd be a lot better if they weren't bley, but I'll be buying a few.

Well, several Lego-prophets who were announcing that the end of the world was coming are obviously out of a job, as these sets are better than they originally appeared. As has been said, they really aren't that bad.

All the same, its a far cry from the Black Knights and their contemporaries. Of course, when you think about, it would be almost impossible to top the classic castle sets with the type of designers at TLC. :?

I am going to take pictures of these guys "in the nude" later today - so you will be able to see them without their helmets and armor. Looking back I should have done this in the first batch. So if you see the folder go un-public then its waiting to get approved with the new images.

Oh - and prices. The little set (8777) is only $8.95. The big castle (#8781) is $89.95

Thank you for posting these, Mfuss!

I LOVE the armor designs on the red, green and black. The faces on the mini-figs are ok. (I hate Vladeks though...)
Thank you for confirming what the sheilds were made of, including prices and great photos.

That's pretty cool...I've had a plan to go to LLCAA this weekend for about a month. I probably won't be buying the castle, but definitely a bunch of the Encounter's.
