Missing Pieces in New Lego Sets

Post by Horak the Great »

Hey all,

It seems as though there has been alot of talk about missing pieces in newly purchased Lego sets.

Just curious... How many people have had missing pieces in the new sets (that came out in 2005-08 ) they have purchased in the past couple of years?

Me? I haven't had any missing pieces in any of the new sets I have purchased. (Knock on wood) :D I've purchased a total of 9 sets over the past couple of years.

If you have had missing pieces could you note how frequently it has happened to you? Ex: 1 out of 8 sets, etc. or missing 1 piece out of 3,000

I, even having collected LEGO for over 4 years (seriously, lots of sets, etc.), have never found anything wrong with any sets or orders of mine.

I don't know why so many people are having troubles with their orders and/or sets. I just hope that I never have to contact the TLC Customer Service with an "I just received my order, and it is great, but..." massage...

Let's see... Out of the 129 sets, most of which have been bought within the past 6 years, there have been a total of...

0 missing pieces. :D

I've bought probably 100 sets over the years and I have yet to have a missing piece. On the other hand I have on 2 occasions got extra pieces (beyond the miscellaneous extras, I'm taking about entire duplicate bags in the sets).

Not really *missing*, but in the Beach House one of the 1x10 plates had a corner literally cut off. Luckily the damage didn't prevent it from going into place, and the piece was mostly internal.

EDIT: Great set by the way.

I've never experienced missing pieces in any sets, not even the new ones, and I've bought 39 of these new "Castle" sets so far.

My only problem I have ever had was a couple months ago when one of the torsos in a crossbow attack set was printed wrong (Missing a good portion of the metallic section), but that was nothing major at all, and LEGO replaced the piece very quickly for me. :)

In thirty years of collecting, the only problem I ever had was a train bogie plate arriving from Shop@home with the pin slightly melted. No idea how that happened, but they replaced it right away.

I've only ever had one missing piece, in many years of buying. I got the SW set with Yoda, Dooku and a little speeder, and instead of having left and right halves to the curved wedges, I had two of the same one. They replaced it when I called.

I doubt that there was a missing piece. Search your room and research it. You might be sitting on it. That happened to me.

I have had a number of incorrect or wrong colour parts, and the Viking Chess Set was missing the euroarmour parts for the bishops.

I'd say for me it's around a .05% or less of the sets I purchase. More often I get a damaged piece, than a missing one. I had a really bad run of missing parts in the Knights Kingdom 1.0 Chrome sets, like 10% of them were actually missing pieces, mostly confined to the Bulls wagon set. After that I have been very careful to note missing parts. The last 12 months of releases have been good mostly. I think the Republic Cruiser was the most notorious for a missing wrong part (Qui-Gon's head) and I had one of those silly Jack Stoned Pirate ships from TRU that was missing a whole sail rigging ladder. Parts replaced, no hassle.

After over 15 years of opening new LEGO sets I have only had a few instances of missing parts, spread out fairly evenly throughout the period. TLC has always been great at getting the missing parts to me quickly and without hassle.

On a slightly bigger scale I recently received a shipment missing the sets (Packaging, catalog, invoice, but no LEGO) and TLC was great about senidng the shipment again, that time WITH the LEGO!

After reading everyone's comments, I think TLC is doing a fine job on their packaging. Personally, the only set that I found missing pieces is the viking chess set, but later I was told that the pieces (silver armor) were taken out. I find that in most sets there are more smaller pieces to compensate for error in packaging.

I've had two missing pieces over my LEGO collecting life; both in the past year. One was with the UCS Falcon and the other was a shield from the Catapult Defence (as if shields weren't rare enough as it is  ). Still, LEGO's customer service department is fantastic when it comes to replacing parts, so I wouldn't worry too much if it happens to you someday.

I've never heard of LEGO not sending replacement parts. Just be honest and they'll put you right/

I think 2 or 3 sets had missing pieces the last couple of years.
