Nottingbley Castle

Post by J1A3L5 »

Hi Everyone -

As referred to in Joe's thread about a video interview, I neglected to post proper pictures of Nottingbley castle...until now! The castle has had the usual tour, and is now residing in the Sidney Museum until the end of March - After that, it's time will run out...

You can see it either on Flickr or on Brickshelf, and for even more pictures you can check out this Flickr Search Page. For further viewing, refer to the BrickCon 2007 Interview!

Image

I apologize in advance for the style and quality of the pictures - They're taken a variety of places (BrickCon, a mall, a museum...) as it's too large to assemble and set up at my house right now.

Enjoy!
-John.

The complexity of the angle of studs is amazing. I would never have the nerve to try that. Although it seems like "more of the same," on closer examination, there are so many new details, and the larger scale adds to it very nicely.
Overall, it seems like a buffed-up version of Stoneguard Castle, but the things you buffed up are amazing.

Very very nice.

Nice pics!
I already commented on Nottingbley in this thread.

I love all the curves you included in this castle and its amazing how you aligned the walkway perfectly to the curvature in the walls, in this pic.
The landscaping is awesome too, especially the moving water.
The waterfall and stream look so incredibly fluid in this pic. Its alive!!!!
The structure of the castle itself looks fantastic. The non-uniform shape gives it a lot of appeal. It has nice curves!

One criticism I could offer would be toward the snot pathway in this pic.
The pathway looks too smooth in my opinion. Maybe mottling some brown pieces (mud) in there with a few studs would help it some.

This is excellent work, great job!

As a whole, I love the castle and layout of the diorama. The one thing I can't help but be bothered by is that there are no windows or arrow slits on the cylindrical towers. Although, an acceptable alternative would be to lie and say they are all grain silos. :P

I love the round tower. I would love to make one but will have to wait till I have enough pieces whihc I know I do not.

Very nice castle. The roofed towers are very nice as well!

Fantastic work.

What I really love about your stuff, John, is all the odd angles that come into play, from the walls themselves to the SNOT path with 1/2 stud increments in height. It gives the castle a very unique look. Very well done, & great to hear that it has had so many public showings too.

Well, My first review, I don't know how well i'll do, but here we go..

I have a nice Lego collection myself, but I just don't know how you guys build this stuff! Before I joined I saw alot of MOCs and they were all so huge! I can't get close to your guy's creations. Anyway, this castle is great, it looks huge already but i'm scared to figure out how how big it really is! I really like the round-roofed towers.

Superb!

I remember talking to you online while you were building this. Seems like all of that work definitely paid off in the end!

From the different angles, the round towers, to the massive landscape - I kneel before a master.

That's really great, really, the entire construction seems really integreted.
The horde and the army inside the castle is very very cool.

Congratulation for the great Castle.

This MOC definately shows your masterfull technique! I like the offset wall between the towers. The "battlemech" as a hero statue is funny. The Falcons have a great castle on their hands, I can see why the Scorpions want it.
