Weekly Set Review: Axe Cart

I always looked as this as an anti cavalry cart. You place it in gates or in a row of them before your archers. I suppose it is a type of easy to move stake wall like use in the 15th century. Perhaps it is useful against all types of enemy soldiers in the right numbers or location.

I do not own this one but my best friend got two or three. The design was not that bad if you use it as a static defence in a battle but I doubt anyone would be run down by it unless they were already dead or wounded. After the battle who cares how long it take the poor solider to carry the thing by himself. Of course adding a second man or better a horse or ox would speed things up some.

A type of this cart actually existed by the 14th century called a ribauldequin or rabaud. It was simply a cart with spears or spikes at the front. Later in the 14th and then 15th century the ribauldaquin or 'rabaud' had small guns added, usually quite a lot and went by the same name were called 'organ guns'.

It might be an anti cavalry device, since halberds are used against mounted opponents. However, i don't see the necessity of the actual cart, other than trasporting the axes in an awkward way.
However, it could be used as a anti-cavalry device in the sense of the cavalry being a rioting mob. So, as a way of, clearing a path in a sea of people. Hmm, My bet would still be on stopping horses.
I never liked the sizes of the Halberds (nor the Glaive), so the set would "do" for buying more of those minifigs and crossbows. Never had it though, since it came during my dark age.

I could see a half dozen of these covering the archers from a flanking cavalry attack. I also never looked at this as an attack weapon... The bulls got plenty of siege attack weapons in 6032/6096. I always placed a couple of these around the catapults to protect them from enemy cavalry. One thing I do know... it would be easier to roll into battle than the troll battle wheel!

The set however has such a good minifig and so many weapons that it is very good no matter how silly the cart is. The wheels are definately better on period carts than the wagon wheels are. Definately useful parts, figs, and weapons.

Got two of these. nice little set if you are into Bulls. Two axes, 2 crossbows, 1 spear and a shield plus the fig. not bad for $6 (Canadian)

I bought one or two of these back in the day. Good parts selection for the price. Good minifig, too. Lots of weapons, which is nice.

sadly i dont own this set . But i think its a terrific set it comes with useful pieces. i would give this set a 10 of 10 because it is a very cool set.

I don't own this set but it looks pretty cool.... but why is the mini fig holding a shield if he has a crossbow?

Thats always a great feeling that the shop owner may not want to share (dead stock sitting on a shelf).

I was very excited by the KK1 in 2000 this set cost $7+ Aus dollars and was the most expensive of the single figure KKI impulse range, at the same time there were still literally thousands of good army builder Fright Knight and Ninja impulse sets on department shelfs for around $3 - 2.80 Aus.

I didn’t know about other AFOL resources at the time and I was exclusively into army building so I purchase a lot of this set (20+) as a good armoury source i.e. shield, crossbows and halberds even though the price was double other available sets.

My appreciation of the bull knights has substantially increased over time; I’ve now forgiven LEGO for the ridiculous bull horns attached to Cedric’s helmet.

It’s interesting that at the time I purchased equal numbers of Lion and Bull knights but am now only interested in today’s Crown knight mini figures. In hindsight I would have preferred more Lion Knights. (LEGO tastes change with time)

As far as what this set is supposed to be I think LEGO just built it as a quick impulse set to display its weezil character using a relatively new alternative brick wheel to the then typical small wagon wheel as was the case with 6096 and 6032.

Why the crossbow; Cedric’s Soldiers have been taught to use their crossbows by Weezil – so be careful!

The review: the set was good then and gets better with age.

As for what happened to Weezil when he grew up, first the 2003 appearance wearing a wolfpack ensign?

Well, we all know the difference between the Orcs and the Bulls, but some 7 year old isn't going to. So the majority of non-classic Castle users would just buy the Orc set, because they wouldn't know how old the set is!
