Need Help With My New Avatar

Post by castlebuilder100 »

Hello, I need some help with my new avatar. I changed it to the new one but it didn't turn out right. I was trying to make it like DNL, RebelRock, and Architect's. Instead of being cut out though it just has a white background.

Thanks

EDIT: Thanks to Peppermint Pig it's fine now.

You have to save the image as a GIF with transparent background.

If you need more help, it will be easier to give it if you let us know what software you are using.

I saved it as GIF but the only difference I see is little dots around it.

It doesn't really help just to save it as a GIF, you also have to define what is supposed to be transparent. I don't think you can do that in Paint.

Well, here's this. It's not cropped or anything.

I usually prefer the 'teach a man to fish' method, but...

Enjoy. It's a transparent png. :)

Now this topic has me curious.

Before seeing this, I did not know Peppermint Pig's signature picture was supposed to be a transparent image, because on my screen the background appears as a beige type color:

However, other members with transparent avatars and such, I can see as transparent (g2's look correct (Though maybe there are others I cannot detect as well)).

Is this just me, or does this happen to others as well?

Nice new avatar by the way, Castlebuilder! :)

I think that happens in windows, or in certain browsers. PNG format files with transparency are rendered in the graphics card and made flat. That may be what's happening with you, but I'm not certain. It's just a guess, but it's a good starting point to research it. I'd first try different browsers to see.

G2's is a transparent animating gif, I believe.

In Internet Explorer, transparency in PNGs are only supported from version 7 (if I remember correctly).
