LEGO board games
Hey,
In the How LEGO caught the clue train thread, Alan and Amanda mentioned brick versions of the classic boardgame Clue. I was going to post this in that thread, but figured I'd start a new topic.
Rob Seater has an awesome version of the board game Clue:
Very remniscent of an older version of the board where it looked like you were looking down into the rooms. BTW, thanks to Lego Diem for the link. Rob didn't post this in his Brickshelf gallery, so I would have never seen it otherwise.
Also, an older MOC, Mitch Hively has a great series of seven Clue vignettes:
Also a few variants on Brickshelf (including Alan's).
I've used figs as game tokens in board games, but never created a whole game. I've seen Monopoly done in LEGO but can't find it in a quick search. Of course there are tons of chess variants out there, including the contest we had here when the first official chess set came out. Has anyone done other board game MOCs?
Bruce

Here's the only monopoly I found on brickshelf:

Funny I would run into this thread now. After I'm done with my current MOC (a big castle one for you castle fans ) I was planning on making a monopoly game, but with actual small vignette-sized street scenes as the streets you can own, going up from sloppy ghettos to expensive shopping streets, with little slots to stick in houses/hotels.
Between plotting to kill you all and chasing balls of yarn, I also build MOCs

I made a board game based on the TV show Naruto:

I hadn't seen the perspective board before. Very nice! A transparent surface for the figs to stand 'above' the room would nicely complete the effect...

LEGO Board Games.
There will be a LEGO Board Game area at Brickfair in August. Here are some that have been shown at Wamalug meetings.

How many books do you own?
A few years ago, Suzanne Rich made a terrific Lego verison of "Settlers of Catan." There are a couple of pictures of it on Brickshelf.
I've always wanted to make a Lego verion of "Labyrinth." I think that would work well.

Very cool MOCs mentioned here. I'm lovin't that Clue board, and the vignettes!
My next MOC I am working on is going to be a board game of sorts. Depending how well it turns out, you may see more of these boards from me to follow.. But I've still got quite a ways to go on it yet (Plenty more building, and probably a couple Bricklink orders here and there).

Ooh, I'd forgotten about that Cataan. I really like some of the details, like the sheep and the little sheaves of wheet.

Well, that's an approach to the Clue board that never occurred to me. It looks beautiful! I've had the hallways and the rooms laid out on a 48x48 baseplate for a few years, but have never gotten around to completing the rooms. This gives me some incentive.
The Cathedral game looks great too. Another one that I've wanted to Lego-ize.
Didn't know about Settlers of Catan in Lego, but that looks wonderful too. Something else for me to aspire to!
Thanks for all the links, folks.

Is that the one with the knobs you twist, and the marble and holes? I seem to recall seeing one in a con' photo somewhere- it was orange and blue I think. Can't find it on Bshelf though.

I'd love to see a Lego Candyland fully fleshed out.

No, the one I was thinking of is officially called "The Amazeing Labyrinth."E of Alshire wrote:'Joebot wrote:I've always wanted to make a Lego verion of "Labyrinth." I think that would work well.

The board is made of a grid of tiles that make up the maze. Each tile has either a straight, elbow, or T-shaped hallway. There's one extra tile that you push into the end of a row or column, thereby shifting all the hallways in that row. You're trying to move your piece around the maze and collect various items, but the maze is always changing. I think you could make a neat Lego version where each "tile" is made of Legos.
The game itself drives me nuts though. My kids love it, but I go crazy because I can't plan ahead. By the time your turn rolls around, the board has changed dramatically.
We have that Labyrinth game as well (Have not played in in forever, though). I agree it would be a cool idea for a LEGO Board Game.
