Lets compare LOTR to Bionicle:
the fellowships = Toas
other good guys = those mini-Toas
Sauron = Makuta
Orcs = Bohrok
Urak Hai = Rakshi
The Ring[s] = masks/kranas/kratas
Middle Earth = Mata Nui

Just wanted to add my two cents. I won't go on a rant about "too dark" (no, really, I won't) (I've already ranted enough on that). I personally would not want an official LotR line. LEGO is all about imagination. "Just Imagine . . . ", oh, wait, now it's "Play On!" Anyway, official lines are limiting to the imagination. We can already make all kinds of customs based on Tolkien. Don't take my MOCs as examples, look at these by other people:
http://www.ozbricks.net/bricktales/lotr/lotrlinks.html
It was arguably necessary for a Star Wars line, at least for the minifigs. Even S. Fujita's masterpiece:
http://www5b.biglobe.ne.jp/~mbsf/sworde.htm
would have been helped by official minifigs. The SW line has also been a great source of new elements that are great for space builders. OTOH, we don't need any particular elements for Tolkien creations (except it would be nice to build up an orc army without having to get a million Gringotts goblins at Bricklink prices, my Fright Knights solution is admittedly very non-ideal). General castle parts are all we need. Yes, a variety of new weapons would be nice, but those movie designs aren't the best IMO, nor are they particularly consistant with the books anyway.
I would much rather see a new line of castles not related to any particular movie or book, or even with any pre-set story line. Let the kid decide which faction is good and which is bad and create their own story line.

Hello!
Oh, and thanks for the link. I accidently lost it and was now able to add it to my link collection again :-)
I disagree, though, with you regarding the weapons. I'm pleased with the amount of weapons we now have (including scimitars and the new pikes). LEGO is imagination, so one doesn't need to many too specialised weapons.... We already have different types of swords and armour, much more different types would only steal from the imagination. (Sorry, this is one point why I'm not nuts about the Little Armory weapons. They are very well done but for me they are redundant.)
Bye
Jojo
In my opinion especially the creative use of certain minifigs adds so much to this masterpiece. And you know at first glance which of his minifigs represents which character. THAT's great!Bruce N H wrote:It was arguably necessary for a Star Wars line, at least for the minifigs. Even S. Fujita's masterpiece:

Very good point: The books are basical, the movies are just renditions (very good ones IMO), but nothing more.General castle parts are all we need. Yes, a variety of new weapons would be nice, but those movie designs aren't the best IMO, nor are they particularly consistant with the books anyway.

Yeah, it has bricks, but its figures are action figures. They are called "Inteli Blox".

Hmmm...
You know, awhile back Anthony mentioned the idea of a LOTR line, and I was all for it... I do still think it would be very cool minifig-wise; especially for the urak-hai (and maybe the other species of orcs, if included), but "Bruce N H" sold me on something up there... all the best work with lego is done by those of you who custom-build the structures, and I think in the end, another themed set would add less than a "Dragon Masters" or "Black Falcons" set, which leaves that much more up to the imagination....

Yeah, I saw a 'review' a few months ago on techtv.JPinoy wrote:Yeah, it has bricks, but its figures are action figures. They are called "Inteli Blox".
VERY LAME. When you position the figures on certian spots they repeat sayings that one can hardly make out. It's a shame that the contract went out to that company.
Oh yea... i forgot about the "Inteli Blox"... yuck.
