So Jayko set off, and far he went....?

Post by Fry_slayer »

Where to begin?

I spent most of my earlier life playing LEGO and day dreaming of growing up to be a comic artist, but aside from 2nd graded cartoon drawings and under par sketches was never really good at it. Then the same day dreaming fella choosed Advertising and art as his college course (still having hope of doing comic some how, you see?) and before I know it the day dreaming dude was pushing mouse for a living, silly me.

Now it was years before the dude found the highway of the broadband internet and came across this holy site known, as the classic castle. By then the dude has been working for years, the old dream of comic was but a silent whisper beneath the layers of chores and obligations.

The company at classic castle shares this love of LEGO, they display the masterpieces, show case building techniques and actively debated the current LEGO trend. It was a time of great debates, in the center of the storm was.... Jayko and his gang of do-gooder knights.

The dude saw the situation in a funny light, together with his limited collection, love for both comic and bricks he imagined what would it be like if.... Jayko was to find himself among older castle figures... so a short story was conceived... those of you who have been around for some time may remember my work from the almost Classic-castle exclusive Jellybeans Chronicles;

Long story short, my friend who works as a writer in a publishing had some laugh with my work, one thing lead to another and I started to do a monthly comic for a local gaming magazine. For close to 2 years a monthly good mix of gaming, bricks and humor was delivered to the publishing. Then another chance came by.... after some delay and bumpy start up today I am holding a news paper with my published LEGO comic.

Looking back, classic castle was the origin of this. "Jayko" has been moving forward ever since, how far will Jayko go? Well lets hope he has all the blessings of brick god. You can watch all his previous and future journeys here.

Thanks Quickblade :D
I won't call it a success for the moment though, but definitely a note worthy mile stone for the project.

My only curious question for the moment though, is this the first ever comic strip created by LEGO to be published on a paper? It came to me when I was discussing it with me associate, and we were both dumb founded by that possibility ourselves.

Your kinds words are appreciated Jansen; while all this has a price to pay (drastically reduced personal time while adjusting and setting up) together with my new working location as a result 5hr sleep is quite a norm now for the moment, the satisfaction level is well worth it.

Who could have thought the laughable baby blue knight with a wise-guy smirk could inspire such a thing? Yes, life is a strange thing.

Dang, 5hr of sleep?! That's impressive that you can do what you do on only that much rest. I know I couldn't! BTW, I like that comic about Life.

I, too, love the Jellybean comics. I always wished you had done more. My favorite was the one about pitchfork prices!

Cool another LEGO comic. I've found that Lego Comickers are some of the most creative writers around.

Thanks guys.
And Pat, that was a nice chat I had with you we should do it more often :)

Now "Jayko" has a formal name in my strip: Jack, which is some what loosely connected to his jack*** personality in the strips and pay homage to his formal castle persona name starting with J.

Starting a new pet project featuring Jack and others on the topic on Life, which no doubt one can find it to be more interesting with broad topics to talk about.

Feel free to drop by once per week for cheap laughs.

Truth be told 2009 has been a hard start for me due to various developments, wish you guys have better luck. But Jack will move on regardless.
