In recent years, they have been completely un-Christmas-related up until the 24th, when usually there would be some sort of Santaman.Spongey wrote:For starters, I'm not familiar with LEGO Advent Calendars, so I'm wondering if any of the prizes will have some form of Christmas tie in, like a tree or an old fashioned Christmas dinner arrangement.

That idea has been ridiculously propagated by the American media for years despite common sense. Let's all remember that breasts are what feeds these precious babies that everyone cares so much about. Wouldn't that deserve a bit more reverence instead of suppression? It's not a far cry from those full body covers those Muslim women wear.
Sheesh.
I certainly wasn't meaning to imply some sort of draconian sensorship. I just liked the previous design as it was more generic. I don't know where you've pulled the "evil" from but there is no "evil" here.

As I've once heard, Americans are the only people in the world so horrified by parts of their own bodies.RebelRock wrote:What it really comes down to is the weird phenomenon of certain people who think that somehow a womans chest is more "evil" or sexual than a man's chest. Besides, most of the "young and vulnerable children" I know would just put the maid right beside the princess in the wizard's tower cage and have the knights rescue them both...

Blueandwhite I wasn't referring to you at all rather, the larger problem in the U.S.

I have to agree with RebelRock on this one.
People saying a minifig is "promiscuous" or sexual and inappropriate for kids!? That's absurd. It's a tiny piece of plastic.
Do you think these kids have ever seen TV, a movie, or a person in a bathing suit?
I can't help the fact that the Barmaid is one of the finest, cutest, prettiest, and most personality with best-dressed minifigs LEGO has ever made - but personally, I'm proud of her. Let her bare it all.

I wish the same as well, more shields the better.
The U.S is mostly a Christian society, and therefore we associate "evil" with lots of things. The only problem is that "evil" doesn't exist in reality. People do positive things, and stupid things, but no one is "evil", unless you do stupid things all the time every second. We also associate "evil" with sexuality, and that's why you may hear people squirm when they see that minifig.
Two rules to know how to define bad...not evil...bad. Bad is two things: actions and thoughts that hurt others as well as hurt oneself. Good is two things, actions and thoughts that benefits others as well as oneself. So, I don't see how breast hurts people, unless it sprays some toxic gas.
Those that are Christian and believe "evil" is real, I respect your opinion. I'm just explaining why you will always hear Americans use this word for almost anything. Thus, even non religious people start learning this word.
Anyways, back on track. What I'd like to see if a variety of things in that Advent calendar. I'm not really expecting anything major though, because I'm pretty sure what they have in there I already have the bricks to make, so my biggest reason for getting it are the minifigs. I'm 100% sure I'm going to love this Advent Calendar very very much

I hate to drag this on, and I am in-fact very sorry for my part in starting this splinter of discussion, but I have to beg difference.
Many folks here seem to have misunderstood my stance, and I see the need to clarify myself. I NEVER said any of that was evil or bad or whatever, I meant that certain things are inappropriate for those who don't understand these aspects. I will be PMing some folks, but as far as I'm concerned any further discussion concerning sexuality should be retained from this thread and this forum as I understand it. (see the Terms of Service, concerning sexual topics).
If this continues I would ask a MOD or Admin to lock this thread.
Thank you.

So far, the discussion has been mature and respectful on all sides, about this great new minifig and the change of costume.
I think the difference of opinions between the US and Europe is interesting on this matter. For example, in movies and television, the United States is far more restrictive of nudity or sexuality than it is of bloodshed, violence, or killing.
Meanwhile, Europe is shocked by violence and gore that is routine on American television and film, but is not alarmed by the human body in advertising or TV.
Personally, I think that the European perspective is better: if you have a child, surely you would want them to be happy and have a loving relationship with their spouse and have kids of their own - which inevitably involves the birds and the bees - but you would pray that your child never have to bear witness or be apart to violence!
P.S. If you need help making MOCs, making posts, or don't know what to do next, please, let me know! I'm here to help!

America has a long love affair with the macabre and you obviously have not seen American cable programming with regards to nudity and sexuality.LordZode wrote: Come now, theirs no need to bring the conversation to that level.

Getting back to the Calendar however...
Why is there a witch? Shouldn't that be in a Halloween set?
Do you think they will finally include a snowman?
