New Lego Sets For 2009 Question
New Lego Sets For 2009 Question
There was a post in 'LEGO Castle Sets' that was locked with posts deleted saying "Post removed by Admin. Leaked info is against the CC TOS."
I couldn't find anything about that in the CC Forums TOS or Administrative Forum Sticky, did I miss it?
Also, what constitutes 'Leaked info'? As Athos posted when showing articles about the Taj Mahal: "Found these on eurobricks. I don't know if it is kosher or qualifies as a leak, but here you go"

The Taj Mahal set was displayed by LEGO at a fest in Japan, so that was a legitimate news story. Things that show up on the LEGO site cache are legit. Sometimes sets are accidentally put in stores early, or the little new set brochures are put out early, etc, those are all legit. The thing that is illegitimate is when LEGO puts together information to retailers that they send out in confidence, and this information is leaked by those retailers.

It is good business ense that TLG wold not want leaked info. Think of it this way. If set pictures are out two months early, thats two months megabloks has to work on a countermeasure, that it would not have otherwise had.
What I don't get is TLG's closethebarndoor actions. They actiely try to squash leaks after they hapen. But you know what? The horse has left the barn. We have nearly all seen the leaked pics. If we have, you bet your keester MB also has.
So why not just release some official pcs and create a pre release buzz?
Doo all your anti leak activity in the pe-leak phase where it can actually do some good.?

Domino Gloria!
Is that distinction spelt out anywhere? That's the first time I've heard it. Though, to be fair, I don't generally spend time perusing the admin forum or TOS.Bruce N H wrote:The Taj Mahal set was displayed by LEGO at a fest in Japan, so that was a legitimate news story. Generally, my practice has been to post most anything and then expect the post to be deleted.

Well there you go. Though to be fair, that info is burried under 4 years of posts.

I'll give you that. How this wasn't added to the summary post... I'll just blame Bruce.
Nah... I could never blame Bruce. I'll blame Josh instead.

Always blame the new guy! I swear I was only given Admin status so I could be the scapegoat...SavaTheAggie wrote: I'll blame Josh instead.
Maybe I should start my own site where no one can be mean to me.

I've added it. Thanks for pointing out the link, Tony.
On the question above of shutting the barn door after the cows have escaped, part of the answer has to do with sets that are not yet complete. Sometimes in the early leaked pictures the sets are not yet complete. Perhaps there are pieces for which the mold is not yet finished, so there are crudely carved prototypes. Or else the torso designs have not been finalized, and there are either stickers or old torsos in the early set examples that will be new printed torsos (and other elements) in the final product. LEGO doesn't want to say "hey, look at the great new sets" and have everyone say "it looks unfinished and shoddy", which can actually hurt the promotion of new sets.
Sometimes this even shows up with the "official" previews, such as the annual Toy Fairs. For instance, remember when the Star Wars AT-AT set was first previewed for retailers, the Snow Trooper helmets were kind of ugly hand-carved things. Also set designs have gone through several iterations. The Harry Potter Graveyard Duel set, for instance, had different iterations between the German and US Toy Fairs. Or for a true Castle example, when we first saw set 8778, Border Ambush, instead of spears beneath the bridge there was a giant spider.
